summer vacation spots

my wife and i are trying to start planning our summer vacation. we live in the south, my wife has lived in mexico, paris, and london and i have been no where! costa rica last year was the first time i have left the country and it was a blast. my second show is in june and we will be taking off for vacation.
not looking to spend a ton but need some help with ideas. domestic is fine. we want to have plenty of leasure time and activities, beach is good but not a must. will not be taking our 17 month boy along. how about some help? thanks.

How about the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Beautiful beaches, some of the best sportfishing in the world, and nice Southern folk.

If you are not taking your 17 month old then I suggest a cruise through alaska.......

I went about 10 years ago with my family and it was one of the best trips I ever went on........The sceneary from the boat was unbelievable!! and you had plenty of time to relax and there were tons of things to do both on and off the boat.....

Sandals Negril for the wifey and I in June. No kids and you are pampered at their resorts.

One of the all inclusive in Playa Del Carmen Mex or Punta Cana Dominican Republic. Great deals. Any of the family friendly resorts will have kids clubs. Club Med in Cancun might be worth looking into also. They are known for their family appeal and the water is very calm (reef protected). You can clearly see small fish swimming around you. I'm guessing kids would think this is really cool. Heck, I thought it was really cool and I'm 48!! My girlfriend and I stayed down the beach but walked to the end where their resort is. Being at the end of the beach is probably better with your child too. Hope this helps. I'm no expert but I've done the all-inclusives a handfull of times. Feel free to pm me.

The parents have a beach house @ Holden beach and Pamlico and fishing is ALWAYS a must when I go to one of them

No it's not you need to pay extra $$ for the meal plan but it's worth it. Food there is crazy without the plan.

Also, how much "more" is the meal plan, no matter what the price is, it will be worth it as it seems to be a great place.

Does the meal plan included all retaurants? It looks as though they have 20-25 places to eat, gourmet, casula & so on, my ? is, can you eat at all destinations with the "meal plan" I assume not

Atlantis is GREAT!

The hotel has some great things to do, the casino is awesome, the booze is pretty cheap in comparison to the food.. I took a cruise and we stopped there for a day. Pretty nice, I want to go back..

For a family, Beaches in Turks and Caicos is AMAZING. Went last year and I LOVED it. It is the definition of tropical paradise. Nicest water you'll ever see, even better than Negril. It's about 2k a person for all inclusive for a week, food, resort, flight, everything. Even the flight there is beautiful. If you wanted a low population not very known about place, with near empty beaches, this is it! Much more of a relaxed place. Great staff, and awesome snorkeling too! Just don't go telling everyone, it'll be our boards little secret.

This is a great place to bring a GF. You might even see a celebrity if your into that.
They have different meal plans for different prices. One of the meal plan if I remember lets you go anywhere but very pricey(you have to check if that still exist)

curacao and bonaire.....

this year i will be going on a diving trip to bonaire for 1 week and then fly to curacao for another week.
Then in september i will probably take a last-minute to some place warm. dont care much where that is.

Atlantis looks awesome, I have a couple questions: How is the fitness area? Do you guys recommend any room over another? It is hard booking a place you have never been to before.
