I'm 5'11.5" and 210 lbs. My max deadlift is 460 lbs. My max squat is 630.

But get this: my max bench is 230 lbs, and I haven't done that in three years, since college.

Obviously, there's something biologically inadequate about my pectoral muscles. Just as my strength is weak with bench, so are my pecs very small.

In all reality, one of my biceps flexed probably has more surface area that one pec, and probably weighs more too. And my biceps are well-proportioned to my body.

Should I start benching everyday? Should I bench everyday and use some sytherol? Should I just give up and use some sytherol? Should I completely give up and just hope the judges don't pay attention to my chest?

The strength and size of my has been a life-long problem and in order to become competitive soon, I'm going to need to figure out what to do about it.

first off throw out bench press! and do barbell incline's and just get progessively stronger at that excersise and you will grow a chest. on any other movements you do for chest really squeeze the muscle and take advantage of the negative portion of the excersise.

ok i just re-read the last part about competition, are you wanting to do powerlifting? is that why u want your bench to increase or are you just wanting a bigger chest?

im assuming bodybuilding as he mentions judges, and synthol is something more for size than strength.

and my advice would be to think back to everything you have done for chest before that hasn't worked, and do the opposite.

My new training partner took one look at me without my shirt off and said that I should only be doing incline presses from now on. I've been using the barbell to incline press and have made a little strength progress, but the pectorals aren't anything thicker or more-defined.

I'm too naturally weak to do powerlifting, so I'm gonna give it a run at a few amateur body building shows.

Sounds like I should be focusing on the end contraction with chest, with really pinching. That's a good idea, thanks. I've mostly been thinking "push", when maybe I should throw in some "squeeze." :)

How are your triceps? Are they very developed? If so, then you are not performing chest exercises properly.
If genuinely you have been doing everything correctly, and you still look the way you do, then yes, you are a perfect candidate for syntherol.

That's a very good question. My triceps are well-developed, but I wouldn't say they're my strongest feature (which would be traps, lats, back). I do tend to prefer a narrower grip that a couple of my buddies who have huge chests. Maybe I should find someone to seriously critique my bench, and have some syntherol as backup? :)

for me personally ive seen my best growth when i was doing dumbbell bench, incline dumbbell, and decline bench or weighted dips done in my dc splits. the single rest pause set with controlled negatives and the extreme stretching really did wonders for me.

Yeah it sounds like you need different exercises to hit your chest and see what stimulates it best.

I myself prefer decline presses and dips.

My chest was weak and underdeveloped UNTIL i started specializing on Declines and dips.

IMO, you should really try to exhaust all the alternatives before you try Synthol.

Once your genetic potential has limited you, then try the synthol.

This is just my opinion.

You gotta do whats best for you.

really, you need to learn to properly work the pecs.
Using an SEO will only give your short-term gains if you don't figure out how to properly stimulate your chest to grow.

Does your chest get sore? does your strength increase?

I agree. Some of the biggest improvements i have made (in both strength and size) have simply come from changing up my routine. Alot of us get caught up with thinking we "have to do this exercise, and then this, otherwise my workout isnt complete".

Everything from high reps to drop sets to negatives has helped me progress.

Hell, try pre exhausting your chest with some cable flys before you do bench press, maybe your triceps are doing too much of the work.

I personally love the bench press, and find that when I do inclines I work my delts more -- even with a wider grip... But coming from you who has a great chest, I have to beg the question: did you develop your chest initially from flat bench? Or have you always gone with the incline? I got my chest from bench, weighted dips, and db bench. I have heard from several people with pretty impressive chests (including you now b-boy) all trash the bench press, and swear by the incline. Convince me bro, lol, because the bench has always been my fav movement.

VNV --I have a few buddies who got some syntherol -- and they LOVED it. And I have to say, I felt a flash of jealousy when I saw their arms lol. :D

well lets look at it this way, lets go back to my experiment thread... I have seen lots of guys that can bench really heavy but dont have that great of a chest, im telling you, show me a guy that can rep out 365-400 on the incline and i'll show you a guy with one big thick ass chest :D

I have a big lower chest, but a weak upper chest, and I've tried about everything over 20+ years. The thought of syntherol injections in the upper chest kinda freak me out. I'd probably be willing to try it, however.

If you're enhanced, more frequent workouts on a single bodypart absolutely DO work (3-4 workouts of 5-8 sets per week). I've done it with traps and bi's, and plan on trying that w/ upper chest.

bump! interesting topic

you really think all phil heath has to do is more inclines? and viola his chest will be his best body part?
you really think Erik Frankhauser just needs to do more inclines to bring his chest up?

my guess is GENETICS determine how developed chest gets and for some frames inclines work and some frames inclines don't work (they don't work for my frame) but i think declines work for almost ALL chests because it takes most of delts out of the move so chest can be isolated plus allows for MORE weight to be moved and used.
this argument comes up all the time so thats all i will say. there are a million threads about this debate.
live and learn i guess. i am glad i stopped putting emphasis on inclines and instead put it on declines and dips.
EDIT and iu should add my chest used to be difficult to grow but after doing declines it grew.

I may not be the best person to give pec building advice since my chest grew very fast at a young age and all I did was pushups and flat bench for a few years. I have helped several people build a bigger chest. As was already mentioned. How are your tris? Also, I am guessing you have a hard time getting a pump in the pec muscles. Everyone responds a little different, but if your chest is as weak as you say, I would recommend pushups and alot of them. Shoot for 200 no matter how many sets and keep rest periods to under a minute. Many people don't know how to work the chest while benching, but it is very difficult to not work the pecs when doing pushups. I would recommend to hit chest hard 1 x week, but do the pushups on 2 other days as well. On chest day do the pushups after doing incline dumbells press and dips. On the other days do pushups early in the workout as a warm up. After getting done with pushups, try to contract the muscle and feel the muscle move. This will develop better control of the pecs and teach you how to flex them.

I know some people will say not to flat bench, but I disagree. I think flat benches have built some huge pectorals , but I would consider age, goals etc before decideing on whether to flat bench. Once you learn to feel the pecs work through pushups, I would recommend flat benching starting with a light weight and work on contacting the pecs while keeping the entire body tight. Pull shoulders together and set up on traps(powerlifting style), lower the weight under control. As you become more advanced you can change your rep tempo, incorporate partials, non lockouts benches for continuous tension as well as different rep ranges. I would also focus on getting better at benching while maintaining good form. So many people get to wrapped up in sets of excercises, but don't improve on them. As a general rule, if you are adding weight or reps you are getting stronger and strength will transfer over into size at some point. Stick to the basics and get better.
