So I am a firearms instructor as well. My oldest who is six goes with me to the tactical range and shoot house a lot. I basically have thought him nomenclature of a glock. He can strip it, clean it, and put it all back together again. He has his own that has a barrel blank in it. We work, wide angle, quick peeks, Pieing corners, carrying in sul, punching out, drawing from low ready and from holsters. We work trigger control with an empty gun. He understands about the seriousness of guns. He drops the mag, cycles multiple times, visually and manually inspects the weapon before ever working with it. I have beat it in to him so much he does it in his sleep. He is only allowed to touch guns when I’m present. He is a pretty good shot. He was allowed to go hot on his 6th birthday. We love it.

My 5 year old has a pump master we shoot ocassionally. He has no interest in it if I don’t bring it up.
that said, he can recite all the safety rules I’ve taught him and is OCD about following them.
i only have long guns locked in a safe which he has no idea is even in the attic that you can only acces through my bedroom.
ill talk to him more when he’s a bit older because right now, he just doesn’t show any interest and can’t access them.

Educate educate educate. I have guns but no kids. When I do, they will get an education early on. It’s responsible and the goal initially is to show, talk about it, safety etc. They grow to respect it vs think it’s a toy.
