My last few years on here I’ve basically just bitched and moaned about old age and side effects, but here’s some good news. Hemoglobin has been troubling me real bad so…

Everything has been the same, 100 mg cyp/week plus boat loads of supplements… HCR and cholesterol were really skewing upwards each year. Weight, 225 lbs in good shape, diet is good, train 5 days a week cardio and weights. 55 YO. I give blood 3x a year including 3 weeks ago. Blood tests are from yesterday. (I’ve been giving blood for 5-6 years, never had a drop like this before).

Before and afters after starting Telmisartan (40 mg/day) and a low dose statin (10 mg, 4x week):

Awesome! It keeps mine pretty stable as well. Another thing to keep it in check is staying properly hydrated.

So you think it was only the Telmisartan that brought your RBC counts down or do you think the statin played a role too?

Telmisartan doesn't touch my Hemoglobin at all. I see it at 21 sometimes.

I am not too worried about Hemoglobin though. No evidence it is harmful in isolation.

I like mine high for endurance stuff, I just keep an eye on platelets.

i think telmi brings down my hemo and hematocrit
i will update you for sure in a few weeks when i test again
but after 11 days on telmi my hemo went down 10 points, could of been better hydrated though?

My guess would be hydration causing the fluctuation. I think you meant to say Hematocrit, not hemo

Enalapril is an ace inhibitor that lower hct rbc and hgb in some people too ,Dante has a post about this on his IG page .

A sudden drop in hematocrit could also be caused by undiagnosed GI bleed. There often are not overt symptoms.

im sure i read studies where telmisartan brings down specifically hematocrit and haemoglobin ? which did happen to me after 11 days ?
you could be right though, i will update next bloods and if it has gone down more i will be fairly convinced its the telmisartan
my cbc bloods 4 months previous, while on telmi were in range... so i stopped telmi and haemoglobin and hematocrit went up / platelets red and white mcv etc all stayed within range

Yeah and docs are quick to get you in to see a GI specialist. Same with low iron levels. Their first thought is GI bleed. With the iron though it often has more to do with what we are taking and also how fast our levels recover after giving blood.

Can you explain that bro , my hemoglobin was 20.1 and hemotocrit was 59 at one time , that scared me enough to come off completely for a while , so I shouldn’t have been that worried ? I know what was causing it lol, btw came off hemoglobin went to 15.5 and hemotocrit went to 43 , 16 point drop, I never want to be that high again because I know it can cause big problems unless I was wrong, Jesus imagine if I took epo 😳

No. We have been programmed for decades to be terrified and think a fatal cardiac event is imminent by internet forums and physicians spreading false information. It's a normal thing for this to occur when we are on exogeneous hormones, same way it is for people living at high altitudes. If your platelets (and fibronogen) are good and you don't have Factor V or Prothrombin mutations, don't lose sleep over it.

If you have the bone marrow disease called Polycythemia Vera, which is very rare, then you have to worry.

15.5 Hemoglobin is nothing. Much lower than mine.

If you want to feel better, look at some youtube videos from Dr. Neal Rouzier and some others explaining this.
