Test Levels

I had blood work done recently and my doctor told me my test levels were within normal ranges. He only gave me two numbers and not the units of measure so I've been having a hard time trying to figure out if they are low or not.

Total test was 3.2
Free test was 12.8

Does anyone have an idea of what units of measure these numbers may be in and if they are low. I'm a 32 year old male, with zero sex drive. To the point that I haven't been able to get hard or have sex in about 5 years now even on viagra or cialis.

Ask your doctor what the nanogram per decaliter value was (ng/dl). That is usually in a range of 300-1200. Get a copy of your blood work, you are entitled to have it. The number I'm talking about should be there. My first test showed I was at 310. The doctor also told me that I was "within normal ranges." 310 being only 10 points higher than the low end is technically within the range, but does nothing for you physically. I insisted that that was too low so the doctor gave me a prescription for HRT. You, too, are probably borderline low so don't let the doctor bully you. Interestingly enough, my second test showed me at 194 according to that range which clinched the need to have HRT. Apparently sometimes your body may have more testosterone than other times. I was 30 at the time. I've been on HRT now for over eight years straight.

He said ug/l,

Edit: Sorry it's nmol/L which puts me in the 60-89 age bracket for test levels. When I told him this he said that may be true but it's still within normal reference range.. unbelievable huh, no wonder why I haven't been able to get it up or haven't had any desire in years. Now what?

fuck him. turn his ass in for medical negligence and find a new doc. make sure you take official copy of your medical records and this blood work to the new docs. that is just fucking bs, brother.

Hey GD, yes these doctors today will look in a medical book and say that 1 to 50 is normal reference range (I am using those numbers as a figure they are not actual). So if you are 1.5 then they say that is normal. Far from it though. I say you need to find a doctor that will work with you on this. Your test is in the basement!! at say 1.5 you are on the bottom end of normal. You need to be in the middle or upper two thirds of the reference range. Unless you are 80!!!;) :D

Yeah... Unfortunately, there are too many docs out there who will not prescribe Scheduled drugs unless the patient shows an exact diagnosis protocol during an evaluation! Blame in on all the idiots who sell their prescriptions for drugs that end up being sold in high schools. Once a Dr. prescribes something, he is now liable (in a sense) for the dispensation of that particular drug.

Your best bet is to find a DR who prescribes HRT to "other" patients and is not afraid to back his patients and show reason for their prognosis and treatment if need be! Heck my Dr. puts folks on HRT IF their T levels are on the low side of normal and they show signs of depression! He's found that MOST men who suffer from depression also show signs of Andropause! He would rather prescribe Test than some useless anti-depression medication!

In my experience, General Practitioners are useless if you want an RX for Test! Find a Specialist if you can Endo's are the best because they are almost never questioned by the DEA (yes, the DEA investigate ALL physicians prescribing Scheduled drugs) as to the reasons for them prescribing hormones.

STEEDA~

Agreed. The beauty of a doctor is this: If he tells you something you don't like or doesen't give you the treatment your looking for...You can ALWAYS shop around. Its like buying furniture, You gotta play the field to get the best deal.

Should I look for an Endo in general, or one that specializes in TRT or just find an HRT clinic. I'm moving to Az in a few months so I'll need to wait until I get out there. Can anyone recommend an Endo that works with their patients in Az.

Another question is if it's a medical neccessity then it should be covered by insurance, correct?

Go on some prop for a month. then stop it and go in a month later to get tested. You levels will be out of range(on the low side) and they cannot deny you prescription test. If you have decent insurance they have to pay, lots say they wont, threaten to sue them, they get scared and they pay.
