Most guys talk about testosterone in terms of “strength, libido, aggression”… but very few really understand how tightly it’s tied to body fat and fat distribution.
There’s a vicious loop that a lot of men are stuck in:
So you end up with this spiral:
More fat → Less testosterone → More fat.

Testosterone and Body Fat: What Science Really Shows
There’s a vicious loop that a lot of men are stuck in:
- More body fat → more aromatase (the enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen) → more test converted to estrogen
- More estrogen + more fat → stronger suppression of natural testosterone
- Lower testosterone → worse fat metabolism → even more fat gain
So you end up with this spiral:
More fat → Less testosterone → More fat.
On the flip side, properly managed testosterone optimization (TRT or performance dosing) can:
- Drop visceral/abdominal fat and enhance metabolism
- Add lean mass and strength
- Improve insulin sensitivity and overall metabolic health
In a new write-up I went through:
- How low T changes fat storage and fat burning
- Why belly fat in particular is such a testosterone killer
- The key NEJM clinical dose–response study that tested 25–600 mg/week of Test E for 20 weeks
- What actually happened at ~150–200 mg, 300 mg and 600 mg/week in terms of muscle gain and fat loss
- How to think about TRT-range dosing vs “serious recomposition” dosing
