Always wanted to move to one of these places. I’m ready to make the change, if you live in one of these places currently, would love some feedback on which part would be best for a family.
Ready do a change and don’t want to put this off much longer, if at all. I’m not getting any younger lol..

Thanks in advance

Me, almost there. Waiting a few years. Wife to retire.

I want to go south and be as far away from other earthlings as possible, so Texas.

Texas is changing fast. A lot of people are moving here from California, and some bring the same ideas that caused issues there. That is starting to change things here too.

I lived in TX for 3yrs and my family and I liked it. No state taxes and good tax breaks for veterans. My wife and I are pondering to move back to TX or to the Carolinas as well. All our family lives in the Northeast so Carolinas are appealing. The cost of living in TX and housing prices at way better than where we live now.

I’d say pick the one with the best cost of living and closest to family you want to see more often than not.

Yes this was happening even when I was there from 2013-2016 and I can only imagine that after Covid all these Californians who didn’t like state policies fled to nearby states like TX. They did the same here in AZ man. This state was a red state but once the covid shit happened we then became a purple state largely bc of this migration.

Also in the North East, have been my whole life. Want to move before I’m old lol, any part of Texas you recommend for a family?

I like Georgia, Florida, carolinas,Texas, my thoughts are if im in georgia i can pop over to the Carolinas for summer beach fun, hit up Salem for Halloween or Tampa clearwater easily.
Charlotte has the nicest airport I've seen, massive as well. For tx from what I've experienced austin is a great spot. Midwest feel while having nicer weather. They get maybe a frost over in winter and the place is a ghost town. But cedar park is good area as well as round rock. You can drive to them easily enough.
Gym wise if you need a gym they have tons. Round rock has my friends gym called Iron Forge ronnie coleman popped in before as well as the mountain (strongman, actor) gym has all Panata equipment. Saw Cody Rhodes (Dusty Rhodes son) nephew at one of the gyms before it's grand opening. You can live in Leander for the schools and feel, then have cedar park and Austin and round rock all near by.

Leander, Texas, is a rapidly growing city in Williamson and Travis counties, located about 25-30 miles northwest of Austin, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, strong school district (Leander ISD), and blend of suburban growth with a small-town feel. It offers a business-friendly environment, numerous parks, and outdoor recreation, attracting families and professionals seeking a high quality of life with proximity to Austin's tech hubs. Interesting dynamic since you get the best of both worlds for things to do.
The schools in Leander (Leander ISD) are a massive part of why it's considered an "upper-class" retreat. They consistently sweep state and national awards across academics, fine arts, and sports.Leander ISD was named #2 in Texas for "Districts with the Best Teachers.Ranked the #2 Best School District in the Austin Area and in the top 25 statewide out of over 1,000 districts.

Round Rock Premium Outlets: For designer brands at a better price point (Nike, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren), this is a massive outdoor mall right off I-35.
The Domain & Domain NORTHSIDE: This is the "Second Downtown" of Austin. It features high-end boutiques and designer stores like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Apple, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom. It’s an outdoor, walkable luxury district that feels very high-energy.

HEB Plus: There is a massive HEB Plus! right in Leander (183 and Hero Way) that sells everything from groceries to electronics and outdoor gear.
Costco & Sam’s Club: You have a Costco in Cedar Park (off 183A) and another in North Austin. Sam’s Club is also conveniently located nearby in North Austin/Round Rock.
IKEA: The only IKEA in Central Texas is in Round Rock, about 15–20 minutes away, right next to the Round Rock Premium Outlets.

Crystal Falls Golf Club is right in Leander and is widely considered one of the most scenic and challenging public courses in Central Texas due to the hilly terrain.

Shooting & Hunting: You are close to premier ranges like Eagle Peak Shooting Range (outdoor) and Shady Oaks Gun Range (indoor/upscale) in Cedar Park. Being on the northwest edge of the metro makes getting out to hunting leases in the Hill Country significantly easier.

Boating & Fishing: You have Devine Lake Park and Lakewood Park right in Leander for fishing and kayaking. For a massive day on the water, Lake Travis (Volente Beach and various marinas) is a quick 20-minute drive southwest.
It’s the only place where you can spend your morning at a shooting range or on a boat, your afternoon at an upscale gym in Cedar Park, and your evening at a five-star restaurant—all while living in a high-end neighborhood where you actually have room to breathe.
that way you have a base camp nice place to live retreat to and you can venture out have massive shopping hubs and things to do.
Every other place I have noted to live you get one or the other. rural peace or city convenience. Its like a hybrid of city living and rural living no sacrificing peace or amenities.
