As a former Army Dog I despise the "Thank you for your service" cliché. I think post 911 regurgitated television dogma.

Our military personnel and other "noble" professions suffer dearly from a dip in Maslows Hierarchy. I do and have always manifested a "spokes in the wheel" philosophy in regards to professional accolades. I was no better, sacrificed no more and certainly no more deserving than any other.

The exceptions are the TRUE heroes in our military. The word hero has been so diluted and misused it's become disgusting.

Regardless, all in all a fine sentiment OP.

It is not my intention to start a fight but your statement is very common yet absolutely bizarre to me. I merely want to learn from others with a foreign point of view. You forgot teachers.

What is "selfless service"? Police go to work with selfless intentions? I know dozen of cops, I've never witnessed this in their profession or 99.9% of other professions.

X-Ray techs? I'm stumped?

I do have to agree with you there. and about the whole HERO thing.

Not going to get into it. EVERYONE's a HERO now. Don't get me wrong some truely are. But the Jug Heads over in camp Pendlton doing nothing but sniffing bath salts.....

Definitely teachers! My motive was thanking any and everyone whose career exists to serve others. I was also in the military and I knew plenty of selfish D-bags that put on the uniform. My point is there are a lot of folks out there that many take for granted and I was trying to be all inclusive.

I also give a huge thanks to all of those retail employees who went to work on Thanksgiving while most of us were headed for the pumpkin pie!
