The Arnold Am - Just An Idea

Anyone that competes and follows the sport has noticed that over the last two years the Arnold Am is starting to turn into a VERY tough show. You have the best of the best from every corner of the globe doing this contest now. Several of these guys have turned down pro cards in some cases. I'm sure this has been brought up several other times but making that event a pro qualifier for the overall winner wouldn't be a bad idea and to take it a step further, have the event a day early and the overall winner gets an invite to do the Arnold.

Maybe thats a pipe dream but it would things more interesting in my opinion. I think it would also create more revenue and competitors for the event which would make it better for everyone attending and competing. Just my thoughts.

I didn't know anything about this guy until a couple of days ago. The dude is dutch and also a super heavy which will give you an idea of his weight. There were photos from 2005 of him and it's such a night and day difference to what he looks like now. Looks like the we americans need to shift things into overdrive because all of the other countries are kicking our butts. Thats motivation right there.

I think thats a great idea, OK so where do we think this guy would have placed in the Arnold Pro? Not last for sure. I say he would have beaten Gustavo as he appeared. So would he have beaten Jonny Jackson? He has a more pleasing shape, great conditioning, great size so maybe so. Could he have craked the top 10? A good chance, he reminds me of Sonny Schmidt but bigger! What do you guys think?

I dont know how he wouldve placed in that Arnold show, but one thing for sure is he wouldnt have looked out of placed...I mean I have seen pics of him standing next to dexter (this guy is only 5-7, so only a inch taller than jackson) and he looked thicker than Dexter, but maybe Dexter wasnt training hard at that time, cause he didnt look to big himself...But yeah, I think that would be cool to give out a pro card at the show then let them compete the next day in the pro show...

that guy is an amateur...thats it i officially quit!!!! McDonalds Here i come.

seriously good idea though, that guy MO could have placed in the top 10 at the pro show, unbelieveable!

How the hell did that guy beat Pavel Kirilenko, the HW winner?!?

I read about that idea last year in MD, that idea is what they are going to try for eventually.

In that last picture, the front lat spread, he reminds me of the late Mohammed Benaziza. Not as thick but given some time.

I was also thinking that he could have won! Looks awesome, these guys definetly look like pros.

Agreed. Insane quality.

That pic of the super and heavy in the overall is just one pic...Maybe he looked better in other shots...Who knows why he won, maybe they thought he has the best chance in the IFBB ???

chris

yea that is a good idea...and that guy looks damn good this is the first ive seen of him as well

It's a great idea! That way, the U.S. can send in their best a well. I mean the only real international pro-qualifer show is what the N.America?
And that's Mexico, U.S. Canada only.

Is the Universe a Pro-qualifer?

But this would be great, you would get the guys doing the nationals getting ready and bringing it to this show.

I've heard a few guys at the gym who have a
shot at a pro-card say that there is no point to getting ready for this show, since it's not a pro-qualifer.

i dont think you should be able to turn down a pro card. you shouldnt have a choice. these europeans are turning down pro status and still competing as "amateurs" is absurd.

Well, it's like the olympics. There were a few Cuban boxers that were outstanding amateurs, olympic gold medalists, didn't turn pro, because it's a whole different sport.

Maybe these bodybuilders view professional Bbing, as a completely different sport, not only that, there really isn't that much money to be made in the sport so the appeal would be even less than in my example of boxing.

Pavel's shape may look more aesthetic and his conditionning a tad bit better, but he definitely lacks some arm size, especially compared to that guy.
