Go and have a great time. You’re going to get mixed opinions because a lot of us on here are longtime Arnold guys.
I live in Columbus and have been here since 2003. I never missed the Arnold back in the day. From about ’02 to ’10 it was unreal. Truly something special. It started slipping around ’12 and by ’14 it was basically done for me. After 2010 I’d swing in for an hour and bounce, and I haven’t been back since 2015, so everything I hear now is secondhand.
But that’s coming from guys like me who lived through the golden years and can’t help comparing everything to, say, 2005. There were so many ridiculous moments back then. I remember my buddy was a huge Nasser fan and Nasser literally invited us to sit with him and hang out for hours. Stuff like that just happened and wasn't weird or abnormal.
I was also training at World’s Gym in Worthington back then (now MetroFitness), and as a 22–28 year old I got to train with a ton of top guys, including Ronnie Coleman. His cousin lived here and I knew him well. It was just a different era, and that time is pretty much gone.
All that said, don’t let older dudes like me (43) who are nostalgic for the past sour it for you. If you haven’t lived those years, you won’t miss them. Have a great time!
Go enjoy it and have a great time.
