Should there be minimum requirements to enter a bodybuilding contest or does anything go at the local level?

What if someone seems not to be in possession of all their faculties? Can just anyone get on stage at a bodybuilding contest?

Where do we draw the line?

ROFL.........Excellent work Man!!!

The ab shot was priceless, and when he was hitting poses and mingling with the ladies in the lobby I almost lost it.

I feel because these are entry level shows, screw it, let them make a fool of themselves.

He should be allowed to compete based solely on his entertainment level.

If you ask the audience what they remember from the show 10yrs from, he'll be it.

Entry Level is entry level so no applicants should be discriminated against:D

My jaw stayed dropped the whole time. That was insane. Ive met a few people like that but not nearly that bad. You'll get the fat old powerlifter who says "you know what you need bro, is a gallon of whole milk and a cheesecake per day" or maybe the fat girl who says "i used to date a guy with your build" yah fuckin right. But that was just crazy.

I've been seeing this type of thing for 2 decades now. I would give up my 1st born child to be able to look in the mirror and see what these clearly delusional guys are seeing.

Last year some soft guy did a karate kata as a posing routine for his performance. He had no tan, a gut, etc. He went home with a 2nd place trophy(there were only 2 guys in his class). Since then he's been offering up free workout advice to the other novice competitors in the gym. The dude is a circus, but everyones too afraid to tell him he sucks because he seems mentally unstable.

Oh well. It just sucks that guys like this can compromise the integrity of a show for the rest of the stageworthy competitors.

Excellent Work

As always an excellent production. You are really great at what you do a real credit to you're craft. The way you put things together I think I could watch a production from you about needle pointing and still find it interesting. That being said now for my opinion on the topic.

I don't find anything funny in the least bit about this guy or anyone else like him. As a competitor I would find it very embarrasing and offensive if one of these guys was ever next to me on the stage. The pain and suffering that goes into contest prep is something that we all share. When contest time finally arrives we are all hurting but we honor each by competing against one another with our best package. When it's all said and done we don't decide who wins and loses on the score sheet the judges do and most times we accept their decision and go on. That is the honor amongst us the competitors not to be shared with frat guy on a bet or some half wit that belongs in an institution. For alot of us, our friends, family, and coworkers don't really understand what we do. They only know that we look and eat differently from anyone else they know. Some appreciate are dedication and drive to be the best and aspire to know more about us. They might come to a contest and walk away with a much better understanding and apprecitiation for what we are. It's onfair to say the least that these people's perception of the contest would be overshadowed by some dip s@#%T in a Speedo dancing around.

Just my opinion and again great job as always you are a real pro.

Thanks for the compliments. That is always very nice to hear.

Although I have never been a BB competitor, I can put myself in your place and I understand what you are saying. I thought my brother Dave but it best,

My brother Dave describes it this way...

"Imagine you have worked your ass off for 20 weeks and just as you step into the spotlight to finally be judged a stray cat runs across the stage. Frantic, it darts this way and that, climbing the curtains in its attempt to get away. People are screaming and laughing as the stage crew wildly chase after it and no one is paying attention to you as you go through your poses. Then when it's all over you are led from the stage.

I've been onstage next to guys like this and that's exactly what it feels like."

Great stuff! Very well done. It reminded me of Louis Theroux.

That guy is clearly handicapped and i think that he doesn't do do any harm to anyone. I think that it is wrong to publish this video about him and that there is nothing wrong at him competing local level. It would be another thing on national level. Bodybuilders on local level take themselves way too seriously on things like this. It is just hobby, but i understand why some local level bodybuilder gets angry about this. These guys spends more money on drugs and stuff than most pros, abadon their families and like to be known as "the bodybuilder guy" and are afraid that because someone "bad" is competing against him on same stage he doesn't look good to people (because of his own insecurities). Bodybuilding is hobby for many people and i think that local level contest is right place to compete for them. These serius guys should compete at higher level contest. Oh sorry i did forget, they don't win those and they like to be big fishes in small pond.

There are good and bad athletes in every sport on lowest level and isn't local level bodybuilding contest just that? It's another thing if someone is clearly making joke out of sport. That guy on that video clearly isn't, he is handicapped. He may not be what we'd like to see on bodybuilding stage but does he do any harm to anyone when he competes? On the other hand could this video do some serious harm for him and does he have tools to defend himself? I don't know many things that i hate more than people making fun or using handicapped people. And in my eyes this is just that. Bodybuilding could be only good thing in this handicapped guys life. Should we really take even that away from him and other people like him? By the way, we have similar guy in our gym and i see same going on there than here. I just hate it.

I respect your opinion, but why is it wrong to make this video? Should we hide people like Steve away? Sweep him under the rug? He obviously wants attention and recognition, doesn't this video give him more of what he wants?

Handicapped people want many things, they say lots of things and so on. Should we believe everything they say, give them everything they want etc.? There is something between "Sweep him under the rug" and putting him on spotlight, why not just let him do what he does because he is clearly handicapped and because of that there is huge possibility that he can't handle what this video could do for his life. Could this video do something positive for that guy? I think not. Only thing it does, is that more and more people are going to ridicule him on boards. If you don't see anything wrong in that video, what can i say?

Mike,

You need to show these guys more "Flyin Brian" clips. He's like a local bodybuilding celebrity in Delaware.

My response to that would be that if it's wrong for him to be seen doing what he does in this video then it's wrong for him to be allowed to do it on stage. You can't have it both ways.

agreed!

well put. it should be a 2 way street here. if the guy steps on stage he deserves to be critiqued good and bad! that is the point of bbing isn't it?? if he is truly handicapped he should not be in a open competition. it should be a ' handicapped ' show.

If Steve would be normal i would agree. But Steve is handicapped, you just can't leave that out. Now you are just using mentaly ill guy to make your documentary and don't think what this can do to him. I think that it's really sad. Justin Harris said it really good on mayhem.

I thought the film was great. Im actually jealous of that guy. imagine how much happier he is than we are with our bodies. its obvious he does have issues but i dont think the film was intended to exploit that fact.

Yes, and Justin agreed with me.

Do you think I am treating Steve unfairly? Did you watch the video? I present both sides of the controversy and offer no solution because I don't think there is one. It is what it is and I am merely presenting reality.

you can also argue that as a spectator i am not going to pay $30 and up to go watch a local show and have to sit thru stuff like this. it is common in this area and one of the main reasons i do not go to shows. even at the local level there needs to be some sort of critera

i dont know whats more disturbing the guy on the stage or the spectators that sit and laugh and pay money to do so.
