I just read that two of baseballs most prominent players have recently tested positive for steroids. They aren't going to reveal the names until after the appeal process but the rumors are that it's Roger Clemen's and a "future Hall of Fame Yankee".

If this happens, Baseball is doomed.

I have always felt that there are lots of players using, if they all stood up and said,"You want a league without AAS use, then you are going to need to find new players." The players have MLB by the balls, if the big names start testing positive, then they can say so what, without the big names there is no league, no income. Hit the bastards in the pocketbook, they will back down. People go to the games to see the big names, take the big names out of the mix and baseballs popularity will plummet.

I have always been a proponent of AAS use in professional sports, these guys make a living with their bodies, they should be able to take care of them in their preferred manner. Plus, everybody has this idea that AAS make normal people, athletic supermen, anyone who has ever used knows that isn't true. If you don't have skill and power before you use, chances are AAS aren't going to make that much of a difference. Steroids do cause an unfair advantage, but there is no such thing as a level playing field. Just look at the last Olympics, our guys, sprinters, swimmers and the like have all of this fancy equipment and superior training facilities. While poorer countries can't afford that stuff. I am not a populist, only the strong survive, but these people that talk about a level playing field are dillusional.

Callgolf - That's a great point about the differences in resources from country to country....there will never be an even playing field. All this is going to do is force the big name guys with the big salaries to seek out BALCO type plays/people and have their own juice made, and undetectable. So the gab will grow. Hell, I have a chemical engineering degree and if I actually had the right equipment and directions, I could probably develop something on my own, and I only have a Masters.

Banning steroids in pro sports is a joke. Even if you got the top pros to agree to willingly stop using the problem would never go away.With the huge incentive of pro sports salaries the young hungry up and coming guys will always take the risk to get the edge.

How would they propose to make the ban stick? Designer compounds and clever schemes for masking use will certainly be devised especially when you consider the money involved.....our politicians and pro sports governing bodies need a reality check.

This brought to my mind a little disenchantment I have with the current adminisration. I don't really feel there is that big of a difference between Dems and Republicans anymore. There are so many more important issues that face the US and we had Congress spending money on hearings concerning a few professional athletes, a tiny slice of the population. I think our president is asleep at the wheel, we are making the same mistakes that were made during Vietnam in Iraq, trying to micromanage the war and worrying about international opinion. We need to take the leash of the dog and let the boys crush these terrorist bastards, not slow them down with lawyers and cumbersome rules. As far as oil, oil is so expensive due to environmental regulations, I promise you it would be about a dollar cheaper if the enviro-nazis were out of the way and allowed for drilling anywhere.

WEll the problem with AAS is that it enhances performance and recovery time...therefore, you perform better and you can receive more money.

With alcohol and tabacco, it will enhance your performance...well I think I fight a little better with a buzz PLus tabacco is a stimulant...that can increase awareness...anyways...I wish they would allow it...maybe regualte it and make money off of it...that is what they want anyways. If the GOVT cannot control it and make money off of it, they do not want us to use it. Why do you think the FDA has a 7 year research plan and you have to spend some Godly amount of money over that time to research your product.

Clemens is probably on them, no doubt. He has the build and most pitchers would use them in order to recover for their next start in 3-4 days. I wouldn't be surprised to see his name at all. I really wouldn't care either if the asshole didn't make it into the HOF after some of his antics on the field, especially after throwing the broken bat at Piazza like he did.

I don't care if athletes use a/s but the only thing i dont like is that records are falling and thats not fair to the guys who never used them 50 yrs ago when they set their records. Yeah it takes skill to hit the ball, no question about it but when you do make contact the extra strength is gonna help bigtime and without a/s, the players today wouldnt be hitting as many homers.
