The Journey

I totally agree with Phidias. At ur height 200lbs would be really big. Have you ever dieted down to see what you actually have in real muscle?

I haven't dieted in a while. The bulk I'm going to start will be clean with a lot of whole, unprocessed foods. I am also going to be doing good amounts of cardio.

Sorry Tank, but there is no way you're going to step on stage at a ripped 262!!! I don't care how much gear you take!!! I'm in a similar boat as you. In the off season I go around 285 on a 6' frame. But ripped contest weight is 217-220!!! And no matter how much I bulk up, I've always had to drop to 217-220 range to be ripped!!! In fact, I'm currently coming down from 285 in the off season just to be in better conditioning. At this point in my life (58years old), I will never do a traditional "bulk" cycle again!!!

Sounds more like your gonna lean up than bulk. Good luck

Thanks bro. Will do. The Japanese tat means "strength"

Tank, you are one big dude! Do not pick a weight to come in at stage down, prep like a champ and let the cards fall where they may. No need to say you will weigh this or that...get shredded bro and you will be just fine - it is your first show (come in lean as hell for it, screw the scale for the first show), after that you can target it a bit better. Good luck big man, plenty of time to do this thing!

Great post.

I wish u nothing but the best in that sport, Sarge, but in your current condition it will take u YEARS to be 260 lbs on stage... that's if you wanna be shredded at that weight, of course...

At that high of a bodyfat, you'd be closer to 200 lbs in contest mode right now.

It's good to be motivated, but please be REALISTIC.

He speaks the truth. I was forever on a permabulk after getting back to training. just wanted to hit a number and did hit 302 @ 5'8". When i decided to do a 2nd show after not doing one for 15 yrs, I was 291 when i started. I delusionally thought I would be a super heavy (LOL good one) , then when I reached 245 and still looked looked like a water buffalo, I was hoping for a middle of the road heavy. At some point I had the epiphany that I didnt want to be "that guy" (the ones you remember at the show besides the winner for various reasons) and stayed away from the scale. I ended up at 203 at the evening weigh in, and was actually 200 the next morning.

So don't be caught up in numbers, and no cares what you weigh or how much you can lift on stage.

Good luck

Tank seems to have his mind set. For good or bad.. he is just going to have to experience it for himself. And that is actually, ok. Some of us look best that way. To each his own.

Hey tank.. i wasn't sure you were talking about bodybuilding or power lifting..

But bodybuilding is judged on muscularity, symetry and conditioning.

Since you live in Fremont you should go to the NPC Contra Costa... its a huge NPC show in your area, its in Hayward on May 7th at chabot college

Will see you there tazzie....

P.S The lean bulk idea sounds good .. with an emphasis on lean.. theres plenty of muscle there.. you just got to get your skin thin enough so everyone can see it!

If you go to the show.. i will look for the Sarge Tat bro.. see you there

Looks like you know what you're doing brother....I'm sure we'll be in contact.

i agree with the Vets on here

you got a long way to go before you are 260 on stage. you are not very close to that at all.
i think the last thing you need in your mind is "bulk"

Phil could do wonders with you. his diet and exercise program would be PERFECT for you at this point.

i remember thinking i was pretty big then dieted for my first show and by the time i was TRULY ripped and in contest shape there wasnt much left of me lol. the mirror is your best friend. forget the scale.

good work tho bro. its obvious you have put in some heavy lifting time. just need to chisel it and refine it.

Tank, you're an endomorph, maybe even an endo-meso. You really need to watch out because you can get fat in a hurry and ruin your skin. And in your side chest shots, I can already see your pecs really starting to get outta shape, so plz don't bulk anymore. Would hate to see ya shoot yourself in the foot before ya even get started.

Tank, like everyone has already said, there is a ton of great advise here in this thread bro. Like Alex said, I walked around at 272lbs @ 5'-8" when I started dieting and came in at 230lbs for my contests. I was not too terribly fat when I started......still had some visual abs, kinda looked like a turtle shell! LOL :D

Anyhow, it is great to get to learn your body on your own and what works for you, but getting with a trainer like Alex or Phil will be more beneficial to you as you will still learn your body along the way, but make less mistakes and waste far less time doing it. You are young and if you get it right a lot sooner, you will be making more and better progress faster, which will help you reach your goals quicker. Just my $0.02.
Keep at it boss!

P.S Alex, thanks again for helping me get in such great shape! That was fun!
