85 years young!!! One of the true greats and perhaps the greatest poser in the history of bodybuilding. Prayers and Blessings for him and his family. Had the thrill of seeing him pose in time when PUMPING IRON came out.

11-9-33 to 1-1-19

Grandson reported he died of a brain aneuyrism today.

your brother in Christ,

Lucky

Memories of Ed from Lonnie Teper

From Lonnie Teper

Sadly, the new year brought with it some depressing news...legend Ed Corney, called the greatest poser of all time by former IRON MAN Magazine Publisher John Balik, passed away this morning at 85. Sources have told me Corney suffered a brain aneurism late Christmas evening and hung on for another week before he couldn't fight any longer.
Corney, one of the icons of the Golden Age of Bodybuilding, had a great physique but the conversation always turned to his posing talents whenever his name came up.
"Ed spoke to the audience like no other bodybuilder in my 50+ years of experience," Balik said Monday night after hearing the news. "His charismatic presence electrified his audience. Ed projected love and everyone loved him back. RIP my friend!"

Corney appeared on the covered of the book "Pumping Iron" and on the posters for the movie, which enhanced his popularity even more. I remember getting a phone call from a close friend of Ed's in 1999, I think it was, letting me know Ed had suffered a heart attack undergoing shoulder surgery, leading to two strokes (due to medication given to him for the heart attack)and time in a coma. But that wasn't enough to keep this fella down for long. Every time I would see him at an event, he had that famous Corney smile, greeting his legions of fans and nary a word of sorrow about his unfortunate health issues.

Corney won titles at the IFBB MR. America, the IFBB Universe and the Masters Olympia 60+ on two occasions en route to the Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. I will always remember how courteous Ed was every time we would run into each other, complimenting me on my writing and emceeing, when he was the one deserving of all the accolades. Here I am, in the presence of one of the games greatest players, and he's making me feel special. Special is a good word to describe Ed Corney, on and off a bodybuilding stage. Gone, but never, ever forgotten. Thank you for all that you did for the world of bodybuilding.

RIP, my man!

Guy was in incredible shape even as he got older. RIP

It's sad to hear he died...but at least he made it to the age of 85. Pretty darn good for a top level bodybuilder.

Even at the masters Olympia he could still pose better then most all of the younger guys. Seemed like a true gentleman from what I saw.

No way!! A true legend.
Arnold must be bumming hard right now.

God be with you
RIP Brother!!!

Really sorry to hear about this! I saw him pose in 1977. I thought he should have taken the Olympia that year over Zane.

An amazing bodybuilder!!! RIP

Rest In Peace Iron Brother!
The scene with him and Arnold squatting in Pumping Iron is forever in my memories.

RIP. One of the true legends. Specifically chosen by Arnold to be his training partner for the 1975 Olympia and Pumping Iron. One of the original great powers of the game, paving the way for others who appreciated the art of posing and had a desire to bring it to a higher level.

I shook hands with him once at the Olympia...rest in peace..

One of the greats. RIP....MM

I first met Ed (and Arnold) at the original Gold’s in Venice Beach
back in the 70’s. He was very nice, humble and helpful answering
all of my questions. And he squatted just like he did in the video clip.

Saw him pose many times over the ensuing years when I was
going to contests (not competing) all the time. Nobody posed
as simply and as beautifully as Ed. Sent chills down your spine.

I met him again many years later at a gym in San Jose He still
looked great and trained hard. And he was still the gentleman
I remember him being.

He was one the greats of the last great generation of bodybuilders
and will be missed not so much for his physique and posing, but
for the fine human qualities he possessed.

Awesome news, At the 2019 Arnold Classic they are going to rename The Best Poser Award to The Ed Corney Best Posing Award.
