Regarding the recent posts, the pleas for sanity,
the health problems and health questions, the fear
of dieing, let me first say that I wish each and every
one of those in danger, seeking help, nothing but
the very best.

Now . . . on to the rub . . .

It was a recent post by Chris where he said "You
guys gotta be safe with this . . .I mean if you want
to live a long life, and train hardcore for a long time
. . . . .You got to keep yourself healthy . . . ."
that I think we can all agree with and that got me
to thinking.

I find it very sad, not humorous, that many people
dismiss what doctors have to say (you pick the
subject) until you fear that you are on death's
doorstep, and then you're afraid to step off the curb
until you get a doctors approval. It is only then
that you put trust in what they say and become a
true believer.

Could go on and on about what doctors don't know,
but that would be missing the point. Suffice to say,
the good ones are here to keep you alive and very
much like a pistol, you don't need one very often,
but when you do you need one very badly and very
quickly and nothing else will do.

If I may be so bold say . . . your health needs to be
your number one priority. A quick look is all it takes
to see the huge percentage of posts here that have
to do with the unwanted side effects of you name it.

And when it is all said and done, more has been said
then done and your little pile of medals, the trophies on
display or tossed in your closet, the stack of photo-
graphs (mostly bad) will become meaningless if you
don't have your health and your family, your friends and
your loved ones standing by your side in your time of
need. These are your silver bullets, save them and use
them wisely. Because in the end, they are all you
really have.

It is so unfortunate is that many don't really learn
this until it is too late, the damage is done, that
damage having the possibility of be irreversible.

So with any luck at all, when this current streak of
unfortunate circumstances passes, this board will
reinforce it's place as the sanest, most accurate,
most responsible and professional place on the
internet to get information on bodybuilding, regard-
less of your aspirations. There is something here for
everyone.

Off my soap box for now.

I'm all about low-dose/HRT/physician monitoring, planning for a longer more fit life... Having said that, this IS PRO Muscle, not Amateur Muscle. Most here are here to be the best, which means pushing all aspects of preparation.

there are risks in every sport.. death in many.. but we still must heed the dangers and see a doc two times a year.. full body workups.. make adjustments when needed.. to not do so is silly.. set aside money in order for this if you dont have insurance to cover it..

i have said it before and will say it again: i dont ever want to hear or see a thread about "this is what steroids did to me".. steroids did nothing to ya.. you did it.. i did it.. we all have the ability to see a doc on a regular basis.. if you choose not too then it is all on you..

yea, doctors are like cops in the ghetto, everyone hates them until a big mofo is laying the smack on them, then they are screaming for one. For doctors, the big mofo is cancer, or a heart attack, etc.

I was no different, lived hard, ignored conventional medicine and warnings, got sick, and then waited for the other shoe to drop for years. THAT's the worst part of illness, waiting for that other shoe, never quite comfortable again, but smarter. For those that emerge, the reality of mortality sets in, and that's what's hard to shake. My body was well long before my head.

I see a lot of anti-science/anti-conventional medicine talk here. It's not that I disagree that many doctors fail to think outside the box, they do, but that doesn't mean we are right more frequently than they are. Medicine is a business, no doubt, but their family goes through the same procedures that you or I do when sick. You can think them naive, but most are geniunely trying to help their patients, and when you hit a real problem , the best specialists are pretty impressive guys.

I remember my grandfather grabbing my arm as he died of lung cancer, I was like 12, and he told me, " when you have your health, you have everything". He was trying to convey a serious thought to me, and trying to save me some trouble. Unfortunately I'm a hard head and was too young to appreciate it, and that lesson is usually learned the hard way for most, especially in this game, or with many of our lifestyle choices when we're younger.

Awesome thread Alfresco. You have a great way with words. You wrote out exactly what I have been thinking and expressed it so well.

I like what second act had to say too.

I do think that the doctor is too often considered an enemy of ours. Someone we need to lie to, dont dare tell them we are using steroids, and someone who's everyword we need to judge. there is no more trust in the profession amongst our ranks, at least not until disaster strikes.

sooo yall really

got me thinking.i have had the same doc for over ten years she is pretty cool. Do I tell what I'm doing and ask her to check for warning signs and moniter me??

Its really the only way youll be able to sufficiently monitor everything. Its a tricky call though because some docs will go ape shit on you. Youll have to make that judgement call. You have known her for 10 yrs, what do you think she would say? Its the right thing to do for your health, thats for sure.

??

Edit: yeah Alfresco pm'd me -- it was a metaphor. I see it now lol.

What do you mean no Atheists in the foxhole? Are you implying that when one is faced with the prospect of death they all of a sudden believe in God? Maybe for some, I suppose it depends on the definition of God again. I personally find the concepts of religion to be poisonous and personally subverting. It all comes down to fear. The more fear a person harbors, the more they need the comfort of religion.

I think he is using it as a metaphor. Hes saying you dont believe in doctors until youre on death's door, just like some people act that way with their belief in god? I dont think he meant belief in god directly, he was refering to belief in docs/medicine.

Weird thread title. This thread has nothing to do with God, or there existence of a supernatural being.

I bet "atheists in the foxhole" is an old saying that we youngsters have never heard of,lol. I think its a metaphor, and Alfresco is a skilled writer.

yes he is great writer and im an not a very literary person, more scientific and logic oriented(see i dont know if i am using that word correctly either!!hahah) but you get my point...so i would need to google it!lol

yeah

I bet it is an older saying. I like Alfresco too, now if we could just convince him to extend his page indents so his writing is not so vertical lol!

I think he means: when the end is near, you can see with greater clarity.

We are seeing a bunch of older guys who have been using anabolics for a long time coming in and saying that they wish they had chosen a more health conscious path. Even Big A has stated how he bears many wounds from being an IFBB pro.

You speak well & write well. Great thoughts, Thank You.

Damn, I'm old if that is an unfamiliar saying to most. This above is the essence of what he is saying. It's a wartime expression. Long avowed atheists become religious real quick when the bombs start dropping. Much like many here discard warnings and are non-believers in conventional medicine, confronted with a true emergency, they embrace medicine like an atheist embraces God at that fateful moment and become believers quite quick.

another saying like mentioned is : "there are very few atheists on their death beds".. my dad used top say that... meaning when death is near you hope like hell there is a god..

Yeah, me too, and thats why I was so stoked when he wrote this because he is able to convey things better in this manner.
