Thia life is fragile. Had Bilateral pulmonary embolism

Good news

One week on the warafrin has done it's job. My levels are right were the Dr.s want them to be and this morning BP was 120/80. A week on I feel no different than I did before the incident. I will hopefully get the genetic marker test back soon and rule out if this was at all genetic. So far it looks like the result of a long flight with a cute child falling asleep on my lap for too many hours.

What I would say is that goals of a 25 year old shouldn't put you totally behind the eight ball for the rest of your life. Only a very few gifted people will ever make a living in this game and be anything beyond a small foot note in history, and still I love the game. But a long time ago I figured out I would make a far superior living teaching, training and owning fitness centers than I ever could competing. I mean think about it for a second, how many Olympia's did Ronnie win before he could retire being a cop?

I strongly disagree.

When I was 25, I was club racing a GSXR 750, tossing it around tracks sometimes at speeds over 150MPH. I know guys who were crippled for life; I know of one woman who was killed on the track in a freak accident.

We should be free to express ourselves, even if that means we ride close to the edge of death.

I also don't understand how money suddenly legitimizes risk taking. It's OK to take the risk if I'm sure of the monetary reward? But it's not OK otherwise?

Is that what you're saying?

Well, how sure do I have to be? No risk, no reward after all.

Another question: why would I ever consider putting my life at risk for money? You can't take it with you when you go. Money doesn't buy happiness. Can't buy me love.

Sorry - don't mean to vent on you. But the older I get - approaching 50 now - the more I realize that I wasted a lot of my life chasing the buck, and that when the chips are down, it just doesn't matter.

I really do not believe that you have understood any of my post. Chasing the buck has absolutely nothing to do with anything here. My point was to at least comprehend that what you do today will have an impact on tomorrow.

i am on hrt and am experiencing this exact type issue w HH creaping up over time and i give blood etc. to keep them in check. I noticed that looking over my last several blood tests that when my HH is high, my platelet count is low almost at the bottom edge of the range. Platelets are what makes blood clot so less platelets is less change of clotting? could this be a way of the body adjusting to the higher HH? what about all the people who live at high altitudes? they have off the charts crits for their whole life?

Im that way too with platelets. Im not sure what its caused by. I will ask my hematologist the next time, but it is related I think. My father in law is a doc and mentioned something to me about his theory, but I dont remember what he said. There is something there though.

Hopefully it was just a fluke. If it wasnt, you can take coumadin the rest of your life and as you have already seen you wont even feel any different when on it. Its not the big deal most make it out to be. SOme folks have trouble keeping their INR in range, mines supposed to be 2-3, but if you eat a consistent diet you wont have any trouble. THey probably told you that vitamin K will act against the coumadin and lower your INR. You can eat things like brocolli as long as you eat a consistent amount all of the time. Too much of a flucuation and your INR will vary. Also, if you end up needing to stay on it for life like me youll want to get a monitor for you home so you can test yourself and avoid having to go to the docs office all of the time. INsurance will help pay for it.

Glad your ok they always recommend to get up and walk around every so many hours when on a long flight. Good luck with your recovery. Take it slow. MM

Cheers man, very happy to hear that things went down the way they did and you went in and got everything checked out when you did. God bless you and yours, take good care.

Thanks again

Thanks again fellas for your kind thoughts. It is nice to know people are cheering for you.:D

Just Bumping here and wondering if any other members have experienced this and if so how long did you take before training 100%?

Well, what did the doctors tell you? If no damage was done, I dont see why you cant train as you normally would now unless they are worried about an underlying condition that might have caused this.

Had a few verying comments. One Dr. said as long as heart rate and BP are fine then resume, another said just take it easy for a while. I will do a light session later this week to just test the waters.

thank you maldorf
just fyi guys on hydrating. I went to give blood about a week ago and hemoglobin came it at 19.3 and they would not take it. I drank water for two days about a bottle ever few hours and went to red cross and it measured 18.1 two days later so it does make a big difference. I drop 1.3 hemoglobin for every pint so i am 16.8 now. I compared my last several blood tests and my hemocrit averages 2.84 times my hemoglobin (not 3) so that puts me at 47.7 hemocrit. I do feel a little more energetic now (dont know why).
I was doing 200mg/wk cyp and it got up to 19 after 9 months so that is too much for me if I am not going to give blood. I am at 100mg/wk cyp now. hydration and cardio are important and im trying to do more of both.
thanks again.

100 mg/wk and you should be good to go. Im on 120 mg/wk and the doc is wanting to lower mine.

Well yesterday I did 15 minutes of light cardio on eliptical trainer followed by a light 15 minute full body workout. Everything fealt fine. Good to get back on the horse again even if it was was a fraction of how I normally train.

Well, I just walked through the doors of my gym an hour ago ( I own and operate) and feel pretty good. Took BP for the hell of it and it read 125/75. All things considered, I am pretty lucky. My doctor said as long as heart rate is normal - no takicardia sp? then it is ok to train. Again I will have to put the ego aside and take it easy for a while.

Have any of you out there had a bilateral and if so what was the damage/ recovery like for you?

Yes, I have bro. I had the same very experience you had in October 2009 minus the long flight. I felt off for about 2 months prior to it happening. I would get light headed and dizzy and I would get a pins and needles feeling in my arms and legs when my heart rate was elevated while working out. I would tire out very easily and just felt unhealthy. I went and had stress tests, echocardiogram and my heart was perfect. So I continued to push through my daily routine until one sunday afternoon in October I got this knifing pain in my chest. It was very painful to take a deep breath. I continued to take it easy the rest of the day until about 11 pm the pain was so severe and it felt like someone was stabbing me in the chest and any kind of movement of leaning forward was excrutiating. I thought for sure I was having a heart attack. My wife rushed me into the ER and they soon found out my heart was fine, but ran some blood work and I tested positive for blood clots, so the ran a CT scan and found out I had several Pulmonary Embolisms. Immediately started me on injections and warfarin and admitted me for 9 days in hospital. The Specialist said most people in my condition die within the first 30 minutes. To be honest I am still really struggling with energy levels to this day and have alot of muscle aching and pain at times. Also I was not on AAS for a few months prior to this happening and have never been a heavy users as I am only a amatuer bber. I am back at the gym and slowly working my way back up again. They have also found what looks like a nodule in my left lung which they think is from scar tissue damage from the clots, so that may be causing me to still have occasional chest pain when heart rate is elevated. I am lucky to be alive and moving forward. Glad you are ok bro.

Thanks for telling your story. The more I read up on it, the luckier I feel. I mean shit I was able to walk out of the hospital 4 hours after I entered. I did however have a close family friend who is a cardiologist keeping a close eye on me last week.

My energy seems pretty good but when I crash for sleep I crash hard which is frankly a bit unusual for me. My guess is with these clots your body esp. lungs are having to work a bit harder.

The last two days have been pretty reasuring as I have done some low key workouts and never did heart rate surpass 120 bpm. I hope all is well with the nodule. Feeling less than bulletproof kind of sucks the big one.

Yes, you should consider yourself vey luck indeed. Its good to hear a happy ending every once and awhile. Hopefully no damage was done to you, and I would think that if all the clots have cleared your capacity will be just as good as normal and you wont be able to tell any difference in the future. Keep us posted on the results of the clotting tests and genetic marker tests.

Did they ever run a coagulability panel on you and test for genetic problems linked to clotting? I have factor 2, prothrombin. Many others have factor 5, Emeric on here is one and he had a pulmonary embolism too a time ago. Both of us are on coumadin now, are you too? Wondering what the docs did with you.

Well the warafrin is working a bit to well. First reading was 1.7, second 2.7 third 4.3. I am now to skip a day and bring dose down to 3.5 mg daily where I was alternating 5mg one day and 7.5 the next.

This body is one complicated chemistry set.

Bro glad you are ok. I could not imagine what that is like...times like this make all of us reading this post realize how we should treat every second of our lives like a life-time and treasure it!
