I used to go to the American river when I lived in Sacramento. I was always amazed at how people would float on rafts or wade in the shallows who couldn’t swim, yes they would tell me they cannot swim but are in a river probably the easiest body of water to drown in. One of my friends would even float with us but could not swim himself and did not wear a life vest, literally no plan B.

Perhaps what makes it even more depressing is that the people he was trying to save made it, but he didn't. So I suppose in a way, if he had just done nothing, he would likely be alive and so would they.

Selfless individual nonetheless and a hero.

May he rest in peace.

i am a former life guard and stand out swimmer (when i was smaller and had more endurance) in that situation i may have been very tempted to do the same thing he did.
he just needed to grab a life jacket first.
selfless as it gets tho. and looks like he was a Christian so no doubt resting in peace w an out like that.
