Thoughts on dehydrated food

I dehydrated food for long camping and hunting trips. It cuts down on weight a ton when bushwhacking through rough terraine with a pack on your back. I thought about it and since I work on the road a ton, I started thinking why not do this more for my meal prep. I can have a hot meal anywhere with some water and a jetboil stove.

Any idea how this effects nutrients?

I don't see a problem with dehydrated foods. Not sure about meats but fruits/veggies keep the majority of their nutrient content. They Lose a little vitamin c though.

You’re not losing any nutrients if you’re dehydrating afaik, as long as you’re using lower temps to dehydrate anyway. I think it could be a pretty good idea, as long as you like dehydrated foods of course. They’re not going to be as tasty as something like mountain house pro-paks, but then again they’re going to have as much sodium either. I have a bunch of dehydrators, and I make large batches of jerky pretty often, I almost always have a bag of jerky with me wherever I go. Dehydrated fruit is pretty great too, Good stuff!!!

there are different variations of Beef, Turkey , Chicken jerky that are nice and versatile to carry around.
Not sure if thats the type of thing you mean.

Are you talking about dehydrated....or freeze dried?

dehydrated fruits taste really good, but i haven't try dehydrated meat or something else yet.

Good enough for the military.. good enough for me.. lol

Someone else mentioned low temps... this is true. I have an excaliber dehydrator. Dries it under 105, 110 degrees. This keeps nutrients intact, and as vital as raw food. I was 100% raw, vegan for 5 years, even teach food classes... keeping it low temp, keeps it raw, just dried
