Sup brothas...well I know many of you guys have been in this situation..times were good when I was at the house..eating up a storm..and could afford to buy chicken breast everyday...well now I'm going for grad school and i'm living on my own and am on a tight budget..So i just wanted to know if any guys had tips on cheap protein rich food..
I'm always on the lookout for good deals on chicken..and have plenty of that..some lean ground beef etc.

gotta be a cheap basterd for a while..until times are right..so let's here your experiences

I think we've all been there.

When I'm penching pennies I go for chicken in a can instead of chicken breasts, store brand tuna from walmart is 50 cents a can here, they also sell frozen turkey burgers by the box (8 count/20g protien a piece) for like 4 bucks.

Also check the meat counters for about to expire or just-expired cuts of beef. You can get them at a real mark down.

I know a lot of guys are going to say go to costco or some place like that, which is good if you have some money, but if you follow some of the hints I've laid out you can walk into some place like walmart with 10 bucks and walk out with meals for two days- literally.

Frozen Ground Turkey

I buy frozen ground turkey all the time. Its usually under a buck per pound. One pound contains 920 calories, 80 grams of protein, and 0 carbs.

420

Depending upon where you live you can easily do 4000 cals and 400 grams of protein for less than $6.

Eggs, Tuna in oil, oatmeal and brocolli. Not sexy and not much variety but in a pinch it will do.

When i was in the marines i lived on tuna, eggs and ramen noodles and milk and bagels.

It's been a long time...

But when I was in school I picked up the chairs and tables after faculty functions, made a little extra dough but I got all the leftovers I could handle..... Steak, shrimp, lobster, chicken ect. I would do it two sometimes 3 nights per week and I had plenty of food all week long.

Buy in bulk at Sam's and or on line thats what I do. You can save a ton. I bet we save 300.00 per month buying this way over standard grocery stores.

I think the bro's gave you some good insight

Personally Frozen Turkey breast on sale. For about six bucks you can get almost 5 days worth of meat. Just cut the meat off the breast lay the meat in shallow pan season anyway you like and bake at 375-400 for 45min - 60min

Also if you know someone with a costco card, get there pro whey protein I thinkits 90 servings of 22grams and 1-2carbs and when mixed with low fat milk it brings it up to about 30gms per serving. Costco also has a fairly good tasting protein bar with 30 or so grams but a little high in carbs but it comes to about 86 cents a bar.

any fish, canned tuna in water at about 50 cents a can on a salad. eggs 8 grams a piece.

Meat at the discount section.

If you really are tight, then watch the weekly grocery ads and go get your chicken there, your turkey over there and you will be surprised how cheaply you can survive on a high protein low fat diet; or hi fat if you are so inclinded.

Get some apples and oranges and good green vegtables to.

Take a good multi vitamin 2-4 a day that you can also get 1000 at costco for around $10

You gotta shop around. I wait until Vons has boneless skinless chicken breast for 1.89/lb, then get about 20-30 lbs. Same with ground turkey. Tuna can be good and cheap too, but I worry about mercury, so I keep it to a minimum. I've checked out canned chicken breast, and while it is convenient, I don't think its as good a value as fresh, expecially at 1.89/lb.

Some natural food stores sell pasta, rice and oats in bulk for a lot less than the prepackaged stuff at the supermarkets, so you can get a lot of food cheap that way too.

Don't forget to through the coupons in the Sunday paper. Most of the food is crap, but at least you can save on soaps and such. Most supermarkets put items that are in the Sunday coupon section on sale and double the value of the coupons. Oftentimes in that case, you can get stuff for free.

Definitely get your protein and other supps on line for the best deals. Last time, I got a ten pound sack of whey protein (blend) for $44; 500g of Creatine (CEE) for about $20.

Price Club my friend!

I go once a month and pick up frozen chicken breasts (boneless - just throw on the grill) - costs $40 - $50 for a month's supply. They also sell eggs by the CASE! Not a case of 12, a CASE of cases of 12 - comes out to less than .25 cents per egg.

this is awesome advice thanx guys..yeah the thing about tuna is I hate it..it makes me throw up..I've picked up a lot of protein from my hometown..so i got enough of that....ramen noodles and oatmeal i got a lot of. I have turkey burgers..and a couple lbs of roast beef. I didn't think about ground turkey..now i have to do that...and I am doing the chicken thigh thing
now i have to find time to make all this stuff
thanx a lot yeah i shop at meijers and walmart etc..I been getting some good deals on chicken where i just throw it in the oven..

i'm glad i posted because you guys put out some stuff that i didn't think about

I can't phucking believe

How domestic we all sound.

But if more people saved what they could on these items and put that little bit extra away in savings over time it shows a return.

Ever notice ( maybe you don't know this ) asians for the most part that come here with nothing have a large savings account within two years. It is because of this kind of penny pinching.

Anyhow to the degree that you can live within your means and still have a little to save over a lifetime, you will retire well off.

I get chicken breasts on the bone, with skin for $1.00 / lb. Have a freezer full of it. Also, ground turkey, turkey breasts, brocolli, spinach, Superiors whey protein is a great deal if you get 10lbs or more at a clip. I get generic crystal light and add a couple scoops of whey for my shakes. Tuna is cheap, eggs are cheap, when I splurge I find salmon and steak on sale and freeze.

cheap meat

coffee $1.05
rifle $500
bullets $14

90 lbs of dead animal in the freezer... priceless

go kill your food :)
