hi guys,
if you have to take a beta blocker and your purpose is to take "stress" away from your heart, when would you take the beta blocker?
i am currently rethinking my evening approach. If my goal is to take stress away from the heart (during everyday activity, during my workout etc.) wouldnt it be prefered to take it in the morning?
Does it matter?
In my case, talking esp. about nebivolol. would it be wise to split (e.g. 5mg morning, 5mg night)?
my cardiologist says it wouldnt matter, 1 time a day morning or evening. But since we are a special breed, what do you guys think?
thanks alot!
regards,
Manu

It's best before bed as it will prevent heart attacks in early mornings. Also it depends on the dose. If someone is taking high dose beta blocker it will make the individual very tired so taking it in the evening is preferable.

I always take mine after diner or before bed. My reasoning is it would help me relax for sleep and I don't really want to be suppressed during the day. I'm not well educated on this though but it seems to work for me.

Maybe not the same, but I take Carditone at night. I always felt it made me a little tired during the day.
(Things that lower blood-pressure, relaxing agents).

It doesn’t matter when you take it,
I Take it in the morning with your BP med.

Most beta blockers half life 6-12 hours

Good job on taking a beta blocker. Every bodybuilder who’s on heavy gear should

Fully agreed 💯

I've been saying this for years as well.

Right before bed is superior

This article based half of the reasoning on people forgetting their meds in the morning which is very untrue; i for an example forget to take them at night

the other half is “non dipping” 55+ which not everyone

Right before bed is superior

Seems kinda scary , unless your really high
Because when you lay down your bp already drops significantly

But they say most heart attacks happen when you wake up

Read article alot of may help , may that

I'm guessing people need to sit for a second on the bed before jumping up

I take 25mg metoprolol before bed..it’s the only way I sleep
I do exactly this, too. Same dose and everything lol. Keeps my heart rate in the 50-60 range 24/7 and I feel healthy as shit with it

So let's say pre bed is best. What if, like many people, you workout and go to bed within let's say 2 or 3 hours after the workout? I vaguely remember something about not taking beta blockers close to workout period but can't really recall.

Going to hop on low dose telmisartan and nebivolol for the first time myself as well.

My doctors had me do it since I was 23…I’m 36 now
My doctor thinks I’m on 50mg but I just half the pill and have double the amount of prescription in case he ever stops prescribing it, etc. lol 50mg was giving me symptoms and 25mg seems to be mild but effective for me. We are on a baby dose but I really find it quite helpful. That and 100mg losartan are my only two western Meds - not intentions on ever stopping either.

ive noticed a marked improvement in cycling when im on propranolol. my speed increases power goes up and im barely breathing my hr is low....studies show it should be the opposite tho...blockers inhibit performance...i dont get it.
then my resting HR the other night was mid 40s....

That’s a decent dose (5-10mg is pretty standard I think)

It doesn’t affect your energy levels or mess w your workouts?
No, not at all. I even upped it to 10mg now. I feel fine, my heart feels fine my rhr is a lot better now (taking 5IU gh daily) and I don’t have any sides. It's crazy. This beta blocker really is unique.

I read a couple studies lately and if I understood it right, even at doses of up to 20mg it seems to me like there are no downsides. Glycemic parameters, lipids and so on looked great and didnt really looked like they were affected by such a high dose treatment.
