Topamax

Got someone really close to me who has been suffering from bulimia for years. No $ for treatment so were trying every approach possible. I hear this stuff does wonders for bulimia and other addictions. Anyone use it or know anyone who used it? Any danger in it?

I have been using Topamax for a couple of years. Not for seizures or bulimia or any of that. I have suffered chronic migraines and was placed on Topamax by my neurologist. Topamax is one of the most popular preventative migraine medications. Sides? Little to none. After taking for a few months, I'll eventually run into some lethargy-type sides and if I discontinue my 50mg day/night routine for about a week or two, then I'll be fine.

My grandmother takes topamax she has been on it for about ten years. She has never gotten any blood work or anything that I know of either , she has a mental disease though . And on the contrary it made her real skinny, also shes on other things like rivotril, which is like xanax.

Topamax was incredibly effective for me. I was having EXTREMELY painful migraines and when it peaked at its worst, I was having on average 15-20 a month. After working up my dosages of Topamax (my neurologist had me on a trial period where I worked up from I think it was 25mg once a day, then eventually twice a day, and then eventually now I'm on 50mg/twice a day), I have MAYBE 1 or 2 migraines a month MAX. It was incredible. And these migraines I was having would just ruin my day, force me to come home from school or work or wherever and start popping different pain medications. 1000mg of ibuprofen was doing NOTHING and eventually would cause what my neurologist called rebound headaches, so I would take fiorocet with codein which is a beast unto itself... ha

I definitely experience parasthesia (pins and needles) from time to time especially in my feet. Other than that, general fatigue after taking it for extended periods. As far as weight loss/gain: none noticed at all.

My gf uses it for her seizures. It makes you feel like very lethargic.

I was just put on topamax a few weeks ago for migraines as well, and I have noticed some of the weight loss side effects. I have heard they can be pretty severe over time and I am a little concerned about losing hard earned size and muscle. Am I just being a little paranoid here? I am on 100mg a day, anyone else have some experience?

Been on for a couple years. Your body will adjust. Weight decline will cease. Migraine frequency will drop dramatically. What is worse, watching numbers on the scale decrease? Or having many days of your life ruined by migraines? I think the benefits out-weigh the costs in the case of topamax-use. Relax and be thankful that you no longer have to experience nearly as many migraines (I personally went from 15-20 migraines/month to 1, MAYBE 2 if its a bad month. I couldn't be happier). No side effects to note otherwise.

I used it very affectively as an appetite supressant. But it also gave me a lot of energy and I already have problems with hyperactiveness and anxiety so I wouldn't use it again.

I had a girlfriend who suffered from seizure disorders. She was on 200 mg of Topomax a day. It is hard to say if she had any sides from it, because she was using a couple of other anti seizure medications with it. I have read that Topomax is quite liver toxic though.
