torn cornea

a few weeks ago I torn my cornea (just slightly touched it with my nail and OUCCCHHH) ... it has hurt like hell but doc took care of it, put a lense for a few days and it was ok ....

2 days ago I woke up with an horrible pain in my eye, I thought I had something in my eye but nothing ... tried to wait a lil bit but it got worse and I couldn't sleep at all so I went to the doc ... my cornea was torn again but this time the tear was a lot bigger so there is 90% chances I'll need surgery ...

anybody ever had this problem and surgery to solve it ?

eyes are definitly something u have to take care of

I still had a lil pain from time to time, said to myself it was gonna get better but no !!

on saturday I see the doc again and he will tell me when we plan surgery

by the way I'm scared as sh*t by hospital

Lynx, if you feel your eye is not ok, just have it checked again, it's a good move trust me

I think they use laser to totally close the lil scar on the cornea

I scratched my cornea about 8 years ago, man, that sucked!
I had to go to the ER and got drops, then they put patches over both eyes because light into the good eye would have affected the bad eye as well.
So for 3 days, I was blind. That was a terrible feeling for 3 days.
I can't imagine what you're going through Mike!

One of my work associates has had the torn cornea and surgery and came out aok. Had to take it easy with sports for a short while.

Holy shit.... Did I read that correct??? You have a corneal tear? Are you positive it's a corneal tear and not a corneal abrasion?

Although the cornea has no blood vessels, it does contain more nerve endings than anywhere else in the human body! Hence, the pain!
If it is a tear, I'd have to know how many layers have been penetrated to know how serious it is! The cornea has 5 layers!

I would definitely find a surgeon who ONLY performs this type of surgery. Your cornea is a very important component of your eye; it is like the crystal on a watch, providing a clear window to look through. Because of it's highly refractive surface, it is also responsible for 2/3 of our focusing power.

I would be asking a LOT of questions about this injury! It's certainly not devastating but I'd sure want to get it done right the first time!

I Scratched my eye pretty good about a year ago. I was driving a hardnail into a block wall and the head of the nail shattered and got me.
I tried to tuff it out But Like Niko Said the Sunlight on it was Just unbearable.
Lucky for me I only had to have some drops for the pain and some Ointment and the Patch for a few days.

Id be sure and follow up and do as they tell ya. They said the eyes can easily get infected then your in trouble if that happens.
Keep us updated my friend.

my cornea was cut by a nail yes

my guy does eye surgery only, he is the king of the eye

and it was really painful, by far one of the most painful feeling I ever had

Hope everything goes well for you Mike. My son, when he was small had a small piece of glass embedded in his cornea which had to be removed and then he was fine. Sounds like you are in good hands and everything will be fine. Its still a pain in the butt now though, I know.

The doctor put antibiotic drops in it and i had to wear a patch for a week. It healed without scarring. I am puzzled why the doctor did not put a patch on yours. I was told by the opthamologist that it would be the only way it would heal without scarring.

Damn man, I wish you all the best and get this fixed asap!!!

Mike1107, Here is a picture of the surgery...yes..it hurts..they use a fishhook!

When will your surgery be performed??? Soon I hope! You REALLY should have a "patch" over that eye to prevent infection and to keep the cornea from rubbing on the inner eyelid.
