Torn Rotator Cuff Ligaments (Help)

Surgery scheduled for this Thursday. You didn't use ICE? I definitely want to ice it. I see these Ice machines that circulate cold water but I think I'll get gallon freezer bags and use those. I'm getting a recliner tomorrow. Showering will be very hard and it's my dominant arm. Not sure how to keep my arm from getting wet? Maybe plastic wrap? I'll be in those bandages for a week or so and I need to shower. I live alone so this will complicate things but hey,, life throws fast balls and you need to hit these MF'ers. Being out of the gym will honestly be the worst part for me. And did your right side atrophy a lot? Did you still do any pressing with your good arm to keep blood moving or did you just do cardio? Thanks for all the support bro. Much appreciated
Your goomgvti atrophy a ton. But it will come back. Stay off gear whole your healing. I only used the ice pump for 1-2 days after my last repair. I healed well and am back at it 100% 7 months after surgery. I came off all gear completly for 6 months after surgery. Well I had been off for 8-9 months before surgery. Gear will not let you heal properly. Don’t listen to anyone who says differently. They don’t know what they are taking about. Iv had almost 20 joint reconstructions and Iv done them both ways. Your body heals far better with no foreign substances in it. I did not take any pain meds or ibuprofen because it impedes healing a lot as well. The Matt one didn’t even hurt at all. I was in far more pain before I had it repaired. Let your body do the work. Those healing peptides don’t help either. If thru do it’s so minimal you’ll never notice. Steroids do not heal anything Ever. Mask a bit of plain possibly but they fuck with the bodies ability to heal itself. There is no drug available that is guaranteed to help anything heal of its completly ruptured and repaired. Mother nature knows best.i n was able to get mine wet two days after surgery. Its not that difficult to wash and you wont die in a few days without a shower. You wont e able to use that arm to wash with until you get the sling off I had to wear mine for 6 weeks. It goes by fast. You’ll be ok

dang that sounds rough man, those are some decent tears. i had a buddy with a similar rotator cuff deal—he tried to rehab first with PT, GH, and some peptides, and it helped some mobility but the strength never fully came back until he went under the knife. sucks losing a year of lifting, but sometimes surgery ends up being the only way to actually lift heavy again without pain. if you can tolerate the rehab and protect the shoulder, conservative might be worth a shot, but just know it’s a gamble.

Ok, I hear you. I'm mostly concerned with falling during the first week. I'm already a clumsy dude. One arm strapped to me sounds like a prescription for a fall. I plan on not moving too much for a couple days and having help with any shower/water around for 2 weeks. I agree that the body natural healing is superior. Appreciate you sharing that experience.

Iv fallen down stairs lol fell on my back in the shower lol got tackled hard like Ronnie Lott by my mastiff and even that thing is in the sling it’s in a pretty safe position. Abd that shit they see it up with can hang like 500 lbs from it. It’s pretty tough as long as you had a good surgeon do it. I had the same surgeon do 9 of my surgeries and they are sll
Still good bit one shoulder with I just abused it too much after a surgery

My surgeon was the ortho for some Florida sports teams. He told me the shoulder replacement isn’t as bad as it seems online. You just lose some ROM reaching for items but pain wise it’s great.

I was scared to death of it. (I didn’t get the replacement, just Frankenstein rotator cuff)

I’m investing in a sweet recliner because I can’t do this sleeping in bed after surgery shit. “I’m too old for this shit!”
Never heard of Frankenstein rotator cuff. I’ll have to look into that.

Learned something cool a few days ago and I will ask the ortho doctors at my appointment in less than an hour if I’m a candidate for it. But my knee is bone on bone with floating debris behind the kneecap and boney overgrowth (thanks to HGH).

But there’s a procedure where they open up the knee and scrape whatever remaining cartilage they can get to and send it off to New York where it’s grown in a Petri dish and sent back and implanted in the knee. It’s called a Maci and I’m hoping it will save me from getting a replacement.

Don’t. I just made that up.

Mine was misdiagnosed as a dislocation so I didn’t the surgery for 9 years. Then I tore 3 more at once and waited again. Tendons looked like exploded fettuccine. Hence, Frankenstein Rotator Cuff™️

It’s all patched up and stitched up good now. I would never recommend putting it off or the non surgical methods based of my experience.

Doc said more tear and it’s free since I filled up my punch card. 🤣

No I didn’t go to the gym at all for like a month. I was but the Dr made sense . He told me since I’m not supposed to move the arm never the less hit it with something. He said if you are in the gym and someone runs into by mistake that can cause a lot of damage. And if you just doing cardio. If you loose your footing and fall. Natural reaction is to reach out with both are to hold yourself. And there goes the shoulder. Or if you don’t the fall alone is very bad.

Then when I did go was just for cardio and to be in the gym. It made me feel like I was still doing something. And I didn’t feel so bad as I would if I wasn’t there. I eat, breathe, and dream gym. That was the worse part for me not being able to workout.

I took the bandages the next day after the surgery. My Dr told me too and let it breath.so as far as shower it could get wet. That when I purchased a mesh sling on Amazon to put it on to shower and not wet the good sling I purchased.

I didn’t put ice because I had to have the sling on and only take it off for therapy. So I followed very close attention to instructions. I didn’t want to mess it up and go back in for surgery again. Dr said that would make the surgery and healing worse.

And yes living along is going to make things very hard. Made me realize how we take small thing for granted in life. Like having two arms. Once you have only one and for a short time makes you be thankful.

Here are some picks when I got home day of surgery and next day with bandages off

Was it Dr. Harlan Selesnick? He was the Miami heat orthopedic doctor. He scooped my right shoulder and knee many years ago. He was still with the Miami heat then. He still in practice by the way.

No. Dr Bradd Burkhart. I believe he did the soccer team Pride and an arena football team. Don’t remember which collages.

I’ll check out Selesnik. Hopefully won’t need to see him.

His “about me” section would be much shorter is they just listed the few teams he didn’t work for. Holy hell. 🤣

One month. Wow. I have a new recliner coming today and the surgery is Thursday. I'm preparing the best I can. Will be a mental challenge more than anything,, not being able to go to the gym or do anything. I do want to ice mine as Ice always helped me with other injuries and i hate NSAIDS. I'm in a tropical climate, so I can walk around the neighborhood a lot. Just be careful not to fall (agree)!! For me, if I don't workout,, I'll never sleep,, so I'll need lots sleep meds. My brain has a damn hamster on a wheel non-stop and only the gym makes that dude chill and I sleep.

No yea ice it. I just didn’t feel the need to do it. Mine was really not that swollen it was more pain.

Dude stay away from NSAIDS. My dr had me on 800mg ibuprofen every six hours right. And after like two month . I started getting these huge bad pain in my upper stomach. I thought it was pancreatitis since I had that over a year ago. And was in the hospital for a week.

Long story short. I went to the er 5 times last one was December 26 the day after Christmas. Blood work ct scan ever one came back perfect. It turned out to be the ibuprofen ate up the lining on my stomach and esophagus . So my acid reflux when it hit both of them. The pain was out of this world. They put me on a ppi and I’m doing much better now.

I’m the same way to sleep. I am constantly thinking of all kind of thing . My mind doesn’t shut down. I must have like five hamsters in there lol. I’ll go to bed at 10 or 11 and it’s 3+ am and I’m still up just thinking. I take several sleeping meds . I just rotate them around. Lunests, Ambien, dsip,Xanax but the Xanax is for my anxiety/panic attacks. But it knocks me out.

I wish you the best for Thursday brother.hey listen don’t over think it. You soon will see that doing things with just one arm is not as hard as it seems.

I still used mine in some ways. Like to open a bottle of water. I hold the bottle with my surgery arm and un cap it with the good arm. Even though I had my wife to help me. I’m very independent and like to challenge myself. So I turn it into a positive and learned quite a few things I could do with one arm that I would of never thought of.

Come back and let us know how it turns out for you. Best of luck you be fine 👍💪

5 Hamsters!!! I'm dying here. We definitely have a lot in common. Funny as shit. I rotate my sleep meds. Valium, Ambien, Clonazepam. Anything to get that Hamster under control... I'll give an update post-surgery. It's tomorrow,, so,, say a little Iron Brother Prayer. At this point, I just want it done so i can start healing. I'll use the downtime to plan my comeback, supplements, get some baseline lab work. I'll hit cardio hard and legs since I can't use the upper. Can't keep an Iron head down long!!! Thanks for all the support!!

A couple days ago, I tore my supraspinatus 1.6cm and my subscapularis 2.4cm. (MRI readings)
They want surgery but I've dealt with Ortho surgeons in the past and I'm hesitant. The recovery would be 6 months before I could touch a weight and 1 year for full recovery. As an avid lifter, that would crush me but I want to make the best choice.

I'm starting BPC-157 and TB-500, GH and IGF. I got a Cortisone shot and I have more mobilization but very painful.

I asked about Stem cell treatment or PRP and the doc said it wont do anything.

Has anyone here had anything similar and what choice did you make (good/bad)?

* This was not a lifting accident. Did a small U-turn on a scooter and the back wheel hit some oil and slid out. I put my arm out to catch myself and hit the road hard. My shoulder immediately had intense sharp pain.
How bad was the tear? Full thickness or just a small tear?
Im 14 months post opp on my surgery. I was back in the gym after 4 months. Full thickness tear of supraspinatus. PT was a bitch but i did everything by the book.

Hgh, TB 500, BPC and collagen peptides helped a lot. Low dose TRT during recovery.

My shit is still fucked up. I have all my strength back but a lot of scar tissue causing grinding and impingement.

Id still do the surgery again if I had the same injury again.

follow up post surgery. The surgeon showed me pics and the subscap tendon was not torn but needed cleaned up. The supraspinatus was completely torn off the bone. Sounds like the radiologist didn't read the MRI very well. He shaved a lot of bone and cut the biceps long head. He did not re-attach the bicep. He said I needed room in there as it was tight. He used 4 anchors, 2-top, 2-bottom. He really needs me to keep my arm away from my side for 6 weeks. Bringing my arm into my side or further will tear it. Hard to keep my arm off my side, so I have a pillow between my body and arm at all times. Pain is ok but I don't think all the opiates are out of my system yet. They made me stay 1 over-night but wanted 3 nights. I think its a money thing being a private hospital for expats.
Sounds like a lot of people here have had the same surgery. Hoping for a speedy recovery and that I'm patient. Patients has never been my thing

In the one picture, you can see the supraspinatus torn completely off the bone. Then you can see it re-attached using "double row suture bridge technique". The surgeon used 4 anchors.

Man lol yea hard headed like always. Yea I definitely did therapy. Dr had me start 4 days after surgery. Now I did continue using BPC and TB and it did help. The first day of therapy the girl told me. The goal was to get me at 90 degrees motion. But this will take a good few weeks maybe more. By the third time she lifted my arm back she said I can believe this you are already at 90 degrees motion. I can go even further but I’m not because of the Dr instructions. She Said she never seen that before. So the BPC and TB worked. But not to heal it before surgery
That's good. I think when people don't do the rehab and it gets all that stiffness in it that causes problems down the road. As well as just preventing proper healing. So much movement in that area. Stiffness in that area is not your friend.

Looks like my pics. Shredded chicken. 😄 Stay positive man. It will be healed before you know it. My doc cut me loose at 6 months. I went up gradually. Just don't push it too much too soon. DO THE REHAB. 😀

I start PT after 6 weeks to stretch but no lifting anything at all for 4 months. I had some arthritis in there that he shaved some bones down and he cut my long head bicep to provide space. I will definitely take it slow. I'm doing light quad work and cardio on bike to stay in the gym environment. Question: Did you do any work with the other arm while waiting? or just left it alone? Thanks for the kind reply

I didn’t do any exercise for the good arm because I was using it for all my daily activities. Got tendinitis in a few months just from daily life, but I didn’t have any to help out.
