Total Gym XLS??

My girl is driving me nuts about buying one of these units.
Its either that or $60 per session Pilates classes, which over a year will kill me!

Opinions, thoughts on those who have one or has tried it out is appreciated.

Well I think the money would be better spent on a real gym membership! Is she intimidated about going to a GYM? can she go with you or train at home with you? Set her up on a good program and make it interesting, she will get far more results over time than get disheartened from something inadequate. As for PILATES, I have never seen a good looking pilates student or instructor. I mean none of them have any shape and they do not look like they could lift a sandwhich to their mouths let alone be strong. Just my thoughts on the matter.

i dont think its a bad idea for people that just want to stay fit and toned. My high school used to have one in the gymnastics room and all the gymnasts used to workout on there from time to time. They stayed in good shape. I know a swimmer who used to work out on it and he was in decent shape too. i say go for it if its affordable.

To many home gym machines end up as clothes hangers after while.
They end up in a closet collecting dust.
I would rather pay for a gym membership.

You can get them on ebay for about $750. She's just about made my crazy about buying it, so I guess I'll be a sucker and buy it for her

I guess I will report back to you guys if its a peice of crap or not.
The thing that scares me a little is the lower end total gym I tried at Dicks sporting goods and it was a little shakey. I'm hoping the XLS is a little sturdier or maybe it was just put together poorly.

Everlast sold his Total Gym for hack squat machine. You can PM him if you have any questions about the Total Gym. He has IronMaster equipment and it's worth every penny!!!

I will do that. If he sold it though, I already know how he probably feels about it. I will check out that Iron Master stuff too.

i've used the total gym before... wasnt bad. i elevated the pulley end about a foot higher with cinder blocks to increase the load and had a decent chest workout. certainly wasnt free weights and i couldnt imagine actually building muscle with it but for a non body builder it might be ok.

but even 750 seems too high of a price for what you get.

If youre looking for a pilates type look and endurance without adding muscle is your goal then the total gym could be the ticket.
I elevated mine about 18 inches off the floor and added a bar to load on the extra pounds. Say 300 or so.
It held up well and bought me some time to save up for other, more heavy duty equipment.
I loved it for hacks, tricep kickbacks and of course the cable fly type movements.
well made and smooth movement too.
