So my question is do you guys use a training partner and if so what are the pros and cons?

For example I recently moved to Boston and I had a training partner for a little while but he turned out to not be very reliable so I decided to go about it alone but feel that sometimes I get restricted when I need a spot or a kick in the ass to get going. When I lived in New Haven, CT I had an awesome partner that was much stronger then me and really pushed me past my threshold.

Sorry if there is already a thread like this...just curious of your guys experiences and opinions.
 
I have NEVER found a reliable training partner....well not since I was on a powerlifting team...but that was over 10 years ago.

If I need a spot I just find someone I hope wont drop the weight on me....

People ask me to train with them all the time and I have said no for the past 5 years, but recently a girl talked me into it and she kicks my ass. I'm working so much harder. She forces me to use perfect form. She got 3rd in the nationals for women's physique. I'm going to help her turn pro this year. It is definitely a great experience. We killed chest for two hours last night. When I took my short off my chest never looked so full and wide. Did around 40 sets and lots of drop sets plus super setted with some back.
 
My little brother used to be my training partner and I enjoyed it. We pushed each other and try to pump each other up but then our schedules changed and since then I cant seem to find a reliable training partner. But a training partner is only beneficial to me if they are able to keep you motivated in and out of the gym.

Does the phrase "I'm going to help her turn pro this year" have some hidden meaning? Like turn her into your private nympho or something like that...

Cause ima start telling women at the gym that....hey baby...im gonna make you turn pro...wink wink

You look your best because your genetics are optimizing to combine with her genetics...its procreation at its best...:D

Did she take hers off to show you the roundness of her chest?
 
My son comes up to the gym after football practice and helps me load and unload the weights. He is not old enough or big enough to spot me yet.
 
Having a good training partner can make a huge difference in the quaility of your workouts.A real training partnership is more than just a couple of dudes spotting each other. A good partnership requires being reliable, being able to have the same training schedual and having the same dedication and mindset pushing each other to new levels of intensity. Over the years i have only managed to have two good partners and i would dare to say that finding a good training partner is about as difficult as finding a good wife.
 
I have my gf as a training partner, never seen anyone as hardcore as she is. I taught her how to spot me, but I'll never lift something that is heavier than I can handle.
 
I wish I had a training partner to train with all the time i train with Eliva sometimes and he really pushes me and is a good spotter with a feather touch whenever i ask someone in the gym they do most the rep for me well pisses me off and most don't understand the idea of no help on the negative but don't wanna be one of those people telling them how to do it. Now i train with my gf mostly but cant ask her to spot me because she's if i needed more than a feather touch she'd be next to useless.

I used to train with my brother until he tore his rotator cuff. now i train with my girl for the last 5 weeks or so and i'll be honest, she pushes me just as hard as my brother did. if she thinks I'm not going hard enough, I get the "you need to stop the BS and lift this fucking weight" lol I'm 5'8 and about 230, she's 4'11 and a lot smaller lmao she can talk mad trash, sometimes tho it makes me laugh instead of pushing me harder to be honest. :)

Very true bro.

I normally like to have a workout partner but since fcking up a certain situation I am currently training by myself. :(

I've been training with my wife for yrs. Best training partner I've had since my old Powerlifting days when the team trained together.
 
I have trained with someone else maybe twice total in the last 2 years. I get asked by friends to work out with them but they are not anywhere close to my level and they basically really just want me to train them in a sense. I'm better off training alone.
 
I have a training partner that I workout with who is very reliable. He shows up on time always, good spotter, we always push each other and we both are pretty good about critiquing each others training and dieting. Only problem is we only get to train together about 4 months out of the year. Those 4 months out of the year I am always stronger and feel the best about my training. Other than that friend of mine I've never had anyone reliable to train with.
 
My partner is a flake. And actually I get a better work out without him
