Most recent post I can see was back in 2017.
Any suggestions? These new tariffs kick in soon and my understanding is the majority of sneakers are made in countries like Vietnam.
My Nanos are beat to hell.

I am a huge fan of Vivo Barefeet after that Altra Lone Peaks.

???

I'm not looking for a squat shoe. I use 5lb plates to raise my heals on and I always take my shoes off if I do deadlifts.
I'm looking more for an all around quality training shoe with good arch support.
Something you can lift and run in.
Anyone here have any experience with Hoka? I see them everywhere now.

If you are running and at weight shoes are a very personal thing. Heel toe drop height in Hokas:

  • Bondi 8: 4 mm
  • Clifton 9: 5 mm
  • Arahi 7: 5 mm
  • Mach 6: 5 mm
  • Speedgoat 5: 4 mm
  • Torrent 3: 5 mm
  • Stinson 7: 5 mm
  • Challenger 7: 5 mm

I personally wear Brooks adrenaline GTS which have a drop height of 12mm. I only wear zero drop or low drop shoes for sprints, never long distance work.

If you aren’t squatting or pulling literally any shoe works. Get some new nanos or met cons if you want flat. Or Jordan’s. Or wrestling shoes.

I’ve just been wearing my air maxes lately bc they’re comfy and just kicking them off for deads

For squats and pulls I wear Bearfoot from Chris Duffin although I generally pull in socks. Everything else I just make sure are wide toe box.

I've been wearing these for several years. Most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. It's like wearing slippers. INOV8 F Light 245 1743809654119.png

I've been wearing Go Ruck ballistic trainers for years. I swap the sole out for Naboso inserts. I'll never switch unless the quality drops

Unless you're PLer, a Crossfit guy or some ultra functional lifter, ANY shoe works...
I lift in Jordan 1's. We aren't running, jumping or acting like professional athletes here.

Yup. I wear whatever is comfortable enough to lift in and then transition to walking on the treadmill. Something that won’t give me blisters or make my feet hurt and comes in a size 15 lol

I wear mainly Vans skate shoes. Minimal cushioning with an extremely grippy sole, great for the gym when you need to feel the ground. I even use them for running and everything else.

I dont understand how people wear these shoes with 2 or 3 inches of cushioning, it looks like an ankle twist waiting to happen.

Old school Chuck Taylor’s.

I second Chucks. I've been wearing Brooks Ghost 16s too and really like them.

I get picky with shoes when squatting. For deadlifts I just take my shoes off during the set and wear socks...same for leg press. Actually I train shoeless a lot (train at home gym). I do like a raised sole for squats it feels much more comfortable for me that way.
