training styles

Thanks big A. i need a new training routine very soon. i'm not motivated and feeling stagnant with what i got now.

Johnny Bravo...495 for 25 reps in the squat?????

I am not calling you a liar. If you can truly do 25 'real reps' with 500lbs on the squat that is amazing. I am a squatter and have done some powerlifting and been to many power meets. I guess I'd have to see it to believe it! [I don't think Ronnie coleman can squat 495 for 25 reps]

I was curious about that as well. Are you talking about full squats or partials out of the rack. Also, is that raw or with singlet, belt, squat boots, etc. About a 1/2 dozen full reps with 5 plates (done raw) and I'm toast.

JOHN-I knew you were going to ask me to verify!
I was gonna anyway!
Jethro buddy-you know I wouldnt lie to you!
Yup I spotted him last week -- 5 plates x 25reps.
Dude is about 5'8-9", 225lbs, very muscular.
Belt, no wraps, no suit, paused just once after 20th rep.
I wouldnt say they are regulation powerlifting squats
(thats pretty deep), but they are about parrellel!
Let me tell you-I spot John alot and visa versa, and he is one strong mo-fo, especially on legs/chest/shoulders.

Alright John-I charge for this, ya know! :D

Damn! I thought I was pretty strong. lol. Great work. All that I can say is, I'm impressed.

YEP, THAT'S IMPRESSIVE.

THE BEST I HAVE DONE IS 500LBS FOR SEVEN FULL REPS WITH FREE WEIGHT. THAT WAS WITH A BELT AND KNEE WRAPS. I KNOW I COULDN'T DO 25 REPS WITH 495LBS ON A SMITH MACHINE. I HAVE ONLY SMITH MACHINE SQUATTED TWO TIMES IN MY LIFE.
MIKE: THAT IS PRETTY COOL STANDING UP FOR A FRIEND LIKE THAT.....GOOD MAN.
CONGRATS: TO J. BRAVO........EITHER WAY THAT'S HARD HARD WORK.

HOLY SMOKES

YOU gotta be one strong mofo to do 25 reps at 495 on the squat JESUS MAN!!!

Big A - if a person was dieting, is there a valid reason he/she shouldn't use HIT style training as long as the diet was in check and the right amount of cardio was being done? I thought a person should still lift "heavy" when dieting.

That is correct. If the diet and cardio are in check, one can certainly do a heavy type workout pre contest. The only reason why I switch to higher volume workouts are because I'm trying to get the results in 9 weeks, that normally would take 14-16 weeks. So I combine HIT workouts with higher volume, plus cardio to burn as much fat as possible.
