Training to failure

amen! im not trying to be a pro bber anyway. I can tell you what iv switched to a dorian yates style hit and only doing one set to failure and one or two pumps ups. iv seen much better results compared to the going to failure every set.

now that i train by myself my one working set ill do a complete rest puase on some but on therers ill stop for 5 seconds and get a few more reps out.

Yup... If you REALLY get stuck on bench SOMEONE will always be watching your set and you can sort of give them a "hey bro" and a nod and they can pick it up off you haha.
 
why would the body grow if it wasn't pushed to do something it couldn't?

but what do i know i have only gone from A to Y... still trying to get to Z:D

i dont bench just machines and the smith machine. ;)

use the smith or dumbbells.i train alone also and have no probs going to failure.

my method exactly. on machines its simple. I only do this on my last 4th or 5th set always but must stay in form or risk injury and work/ recruit bigger muscle group
 
the following champs never really trained to failure:

samir

lou ferrigno

bill pearl

arnold

zane

shawn ray

chris dickerson
franco columbu
now.......that being said......these men all trained intensely......but in a smarter way......and most avoided serious injuries along the way.


remember what lee haney said......stimulate.....don't annihilate.......train hard but in a smart way......don't let an injury end your training days. IMHO
 
the type 2b fibers which are the ones that cause the most dramatic growth only fire off when u hit failure. so when i wanna quit i tell myself right then, "this is where i grow, these last 2 is when the growing starts." that gets the fire growing to push thru. i also train alone. i refuse to make eye contact in the gym to avoid some of those chatty kathy assholes there for their fat pass instead of really getting it done. for chest i stick with dumbells which allows me to get to failure easy without injury. smith for shoulders, barbells for bi's, weighted dips for tri's, power rack for quads, sldl for hams, db and bb for back. all can be taken to failure alone

LOL... can you please explain how you have developed the ability to consciously choose your fiber recruitment?
