I'm sure everyone here doesnt workout out with tight muscles because you can get a tear that way, but who focuses on a good amount of stretches a few days each week to stay flexible and loose? I know people that dont believe in stretches

extreme stretches as part of DC.

I do......

I do 3 or 4 sessions of vinyasha yoga at home every week. Have about 15 dvds from Barron Baptiste and Rodney Yee of varying lengths and difficulties. Have really increased flexibility and just a general sense of well being. HTH

I stretch in the steam room after every work out and warm up on the treadmill for 10 min before.

Static stretching between sets always and also post workout. Post workout I hold static stretch for at least 3 min. PNF is not really usefully in my opinion to stretch the fascia and connective tissue during or post workout as it just lengethens the muscles, but does not put enough pressure on the fascia to actually get it to expand. Although very useful for trying to lengthen muscles if that is what you are trying to accomplish.

i think the upper body, specifically the shoulder(and what is attached to the arm) is so free and mobile that it doenst seem to tighten up for the majority of people therefore dynamic stretches work well.

for my hips and legs i always stretch them before deads or squats becuase i have been dealing with hip imbalances, so to stretch everything, allows me to get square before lifting and avoid twisting and other nasty things.

I use the "foam roll" before i hit the weights. Very under rated IMHO.

With PNF you are tensing the muscle while pushing against resistance. . . when you loose the resistance you are able to be release into a deeper stretch than if you were just doing static stretching.
