Trt results with prescribed test

Was put on 40mg test cyp/wk to start. Insurance covered. Was mid 200s prior to. This dose put me upper 500s. Plan to talk at my visit about trying to get to 700ish.

That seems like a big response from 40mg/wk, no?

I guess I’m surprised. I was expecting 400s so my plan was to push for a higher dose.

I’m happy to at least have a source for good as I age out. Makes me wonder what my levels were when 750mg/wk was my lower/standard dose for years.

Your DR is way too conservative.

Just put yourself on your own TRT program, fuck these docs. You have the means to do this yourself with as much test as you want.

I’ve been on prescribed TRT for 30 years . I started early at 21 due to ball cancer. We have settled on 200 mg per week and I’ve been on that dose for probably the last 10 years. 5 days post injection bloods put me between 600-700. Finally needing a tiny bit of anti E weekly. I feel good

You just work with an extremely conservative doctor IMO. To me they almost sound inexperienced as the baseline is generally 1mg per pound of bodyweight or 200mg.

His dosage guidelines seem completely made up.

I would either just be more direct with him knowing your goal or find a better equipped clinic.

40 mg is low for most Dr. that are willing to prescribe TRT. But i know of some guys that only use 50mg week. If your Dr wanted to start low then raise upward as needed then that can make. Seeing where he wants to go from here seems reasonable. You can always go elsewhere if you can find another Dr.

Most doctors and insurance follow a 'disease model" and will not even prescribe if levels are under 300ish. Might be tough to get a regular doc to get you to that level under insurance.

TRT clinics use "optimization model" and most will prescribe if levels are below 600 but will not except insurance. So if you are willing to pay for I would highly recommend a good TRT clinic. There are allot out tere these days but use one that regularly checks levels and lets you keep levels in the 800-1000 range. Gameday Men's Health is popping up all over country and had a great system and onsite testing. Full disclosure, I like the model so much I own rites to multiple territories and will have first one open in few months. Good luck!

Unless this is for legal/court purposes I’d drop this doctor and find someone else. For reference my PCP’s idea of TRT is one injection per month of 100mg Cypionate. He was shocked when he read how much I was taking weekly.

I schooled him briefly on all the cons regarding his techniques. Surprising, he actually listened and asked questions. He wasn’t willing to change his ways though. He’s an older gentleman set in his ways. Plus most of his patients are 70+ that are using TRT.

The lowest levels I’m willing to go are 1200ng/dL. Realistically, I’d like 3000-5000ng/dL. Cause who the fuck wants 500ng/dL testosterone blood levels. Last bloodwork this year had me at 4982ng/dL.

The 1200 mark is simply for doctor appointments. So twice a year I have to compromise and drop my testosterone dose. Fuckers!!!

Sounds like your doc is looking to find the lowest effective dose to get you to land on the right number. Looking at this from a lifelong perspective that sounds like a very rational approach. I disagree with most of the posts above, I think you might have actually found a good doctor.

I saw an endo a few months ago for some thyroid stuff and getting on prescribed trt was discussed but would have to be a different referral (Dr's and insurance, blah). He about shit himself because my test levels were 1092 I think. Over 1000 but within the lab range my gp uses.

The trt he prescribes is 100mg test/week. He didn't know the ester and knows nothing about ai's. I haven't been back, lol.

Saw a urologist too. He too freaked out. Seemed like he wanted test levels around 500. He pretty much kicked me out of his office.

I'm still just doing my own thing. Whatever. Kind of wanted the prescription for traveling.

Some of these doctors especially GP's are lost when it comes to TRT. My family doctor prescribed me 200mg every 3 weeksOf course I never ran it that way. Eventually I changed courses and went with a TRT clinic who had me at 200mg every 5 days

I know a guy who went to the urologist for some crystal clear hypogonadism symptoms ( confirmed by repeated blood tests) and left his office with a prescription for daily 5mg Cialis.

My GP pulled me off of TRT because HIS brother developed prostate cancer that he THOUGHT was caused by TRT, and he just didn't want to prescribe it anymore

A bottle of test is $40 why jump through these hoops to get a little "free test"? Top of the range on most labs is 900. I agree most doctors are clueless on the topic but you guys never see the other side of liability. Test is a controlled substance. If you are even pushing top of the range, god forbid over, it is liability and questions to answer for the doctor if they are ever audited. Why take that risk? To appease some cheap ass meatheads for a few bucks when their calendar is booked out 3 months? If you don`t like the traditional system (I don`t), then don`t participate or shut up and take what`s given.
