Every once in a while (on the road for business) I'll look to buy some deli turkey to snack on. My question is...why is some turkey 2.99 per pound...and some 9.99 per pound? I try to stick with Boars Head (supposed to be good quality) but it's usually near the top of the 9.99 per pound range!
Apparently, all turkeys are not created equal!!
I see the word "shaved" on some of the labels..don't know what the hell that is either.
Anyone have any answers here?
Hope it ain't a stupid question.

I have seen the same thing. answer to your question is the upper price range is from 100% turkey breast. the lower price range is turkey breast with added white meat, processed meat in packages with added food preservers.

:yeahthat:

Be careful, when you buy turkey, especially ground, make sure it is turkey breast and not just turkey. Ground turkey, not breast, has as much fat as standard ground beef.

That's interesting. Haven't bought ground turkey..but was thinking of it. No way now.
Gonna make sure it's 100% Turkey breast from now on...no fake crap.
Love that mesquite smoked stuff.....mmmmmm.

Exactly and the mark up for big brand NAME like Boars head etc...

with boars head your getting 100% turkey breast-cheaper brands use fillers like modified food starch and other less desirable parts of the turkey

Like anything, you get what you pay for....

So pay up, Sucka!!

Damn I was dying for a sandwich at home and bought some 3.49LB turkey........................I'll shoot for a slice(literally lol) for the expensive Turkey next time

I've been buying ground turkey and making spaghetti with just some Prego Sauce (and maybe some sausage--tasty and not too many calories, I suggest trying it. Not bad at all, good to get away from the ground beef sometimes.

It's called Lean Ground Turkey or Lean Ground Beef and inject high dose of trenola A and voila you got huge fucking meat. You will be surprised what rubbish and leftover backfat the butcher put in. BigChefona Approved!
