Type 1 diabetics and off-season nutrition

A type 1 diabetic at the gym is getting more serious into bodybuilding and asked if I knew what the best nutrition approach tends to be for people with this condition when wanting to add mass (off-season approach).

Would a keto based diet like Palumbo's approach be a good base? High protein, moderate/high fats and low carbs? Maybe carbs around the workout window? I'd be curious to see if anyone well-versed in this could share some knowledge.

Best I can tell you is to look into Jason Poston, he's type 1 and had a good run as a men's physique pro. You could also look into Anth Bailes and Ronny Rockel, both bodybuilding pros who are type 2.

Might be helpful to hear things from a BB pro with diabetes.

Thank guys for the help! I remember watching that Colette's video a while back. I'll re-watch it and will also watch the Jason Poston's video.

I'll also see if I can find out specifics from Anth Bailes and Ronny Rockel.

But Rockel is type 2

Bailes is type 1, Rockel type 2.

But Rockel is type 2

Bailes is type 1, Rockel type 2.

Thanks. I'll give it a watch.

Any tips anyone?
Sorry, but there are too many variables here. For example, diabetes can be caused by pancreatitis - in which case a keto diet is a very bad idea. This is despite the fact that pancreatitis itself can be very different. Any change in diet should be made under the supervision of his attending physician - this may require changes in treatment, drugs taken and their amount.
