They told me today I have ulcerative colitis.They gave me Colazal and prednisone to take.There is no way in hell im taking the prednisone for 2 months like he wants either.I was out of it when he told my wife what he was giving me or I would have asked for something else.If anybody has any info to help me with this and any info on Colazal please let me know.

hey man, sorry to hear. i have crohn's disease which is pretty much the same thing, had it since i was 13 (21 now). i have never heard of Colazal before . and yes prednisone blows, but its worth it if ur not feeling well....the only negatives i noticed taking it was whole body bloating ...ive have taken it months at a time over the many years ive had crohn's...if u have any questions just shoot me a PM

Well, I would think prednisone is better than having parts of your intestines removed. I have a friend with UC. When he stops the drugs he shits blood etc. Some docs have recommended surgery while others feel it should be the last resort. My friend has used he colazal too along with cortisone and a bunch of other drugs, some immune suppressants etc. I think the colazal can be used rectally too?

i had 10 inches of my small intestine removed about 6 weeks ago, im finally feeling great and i could possibly never have any symptoms for the rest of my life.

there is no cure for UC or crohn's, but once u get the right medication u should be good to go. but if/when it becomes unbearable, thats when u need surgery.

in my case, a tiny pin head size tear in my intesting cause a abscess in my abdominal wall (not muscle thank God) and i had ongoing pain and misery for about a year where no medication could help. surgery has definitely changed my life for the better as far as i can tell....but i would suggest avoiding surgery until u had no other choices like in my situation

my girlfriend has that...she is on a really high amount of prednisone and i know she hates it...60-80mg's a day

damn dude, how old are you? i've read some of your other posts about your health problems and think i remember you being in your 20s. if so, you're going through alot of shit at a young age. sorry to hear that you are still dealing with all that, and i hope your health improves.

yeah this has been the worst damn year of my life!!!I will take fault for the liver but not this one I had nothing to do with this.lol

For you guys taking prednisone....you can switch to methylprednisolone and reduce your water retention greatly due to its lower mineral corticoid activity.
