Umbilical hernia and diastasis recti

I know some of you guys have had umbilical hernias but has anyone had diastasis recti to go alone with it? I saw the doctor about the hernia but he also said I have diastasis. I do have a split and the "football" that pops out if I do a crunch. He said he could fix the hernia and I could be ok as long as I'm not too active. Since the muscle above the mesh for the hernia is split and weak the mess may not hold and it would most likely blow again. The doctor referred me to another surgeon who does hernia and diastasis repairs. I just made an appointment to see him. I've never had any surgery before and this is kind of scaring me. What I thought was going to be somewhat minor surgery and recovery is turning out to be more major with a long recovery period. So I was wondering if anyone has had diastasis surgery. I was told I could be in the hospital for 2-3 days or possibly up to a week. How long was the recovery period and how soon did you get back to the weights. Any restrictions as far as heavy lifting goes? I certainly won't rush anything but sure hope I can train hard again some day.

Thanks,
Max

I have the umbilical hernia and from what you described maybe the diastis as well.
Everytime I get close to having enough money to pay the deductable off for the procedure something else comes up in life and the money has to go to the priority - I would love to have it all fixed up.

I had my umbilical hernia repaird along with 2 inguinal hernias and everything went ok. Im not sure what happened, but sometime after that surgery I noticed that I have the diastasis condition you speak of. I dont remember seeing it prior to my surgery. Anyhow, Ive had it now for a long time and it only shows if I am doing crunches. If I were you I would just leave that condition alone and just get surgery on your hernia. I dont think there are any health risks to having the diastasis.

I have a small hernia and diastasis recti and I have seen a couple of surgeons and they said they could fix the hernia for me. But they did not recommend surgery for the diastasis recti because they had told me there was no way to make sure that the muscle would stay together.

Thanks guys. When I go see the specialist I'll talk to him about just doing the hernia.
