been battling with local elbow pain in my left arm. its affecting my ability to do any sort of heavy presses. for the longest time i didn't notice much in terms of uneven strength and lopsided because i always bench in smith machine or hammer strength etc.

but i tried to do dumbells and incline barbell at my gym and i noticed when i bench anything over 275 its all lopsided lol. the left arm with the bad elbow is the one on the lower end.

also i tried to do seated dumbells. up to 90 its okay can't tell but with 100s the left arm just doesn't wanna push?? the right arm is way ahead in terms of getting the weight up?

do you guys think its all local or is there some imbalance coming from higher up? i have had it massaged and prolo therapy but still it persists. i also can't do overhead tricep extensions or skull crushers it kills.

wondering if its bad elbow tendonitis. been 3-4 months now.

We need a sticky here.
You need a dr. Who does art and has taken the nerve courses and also someone who does dry needling. I would bet my money that it's stemming from your neck and you have radial nerve entrapment. Fix your neck, fix your shoulder mobility on that side and your elbow pain will go away.

i will bring this up with my physio who does dry needling. thanks man. funny you say that it actually started off on my left shoulder infraspinatus /rear delt region. i would complain about the uneven strength and all that , but now its made its way down to my elbow?

Yes, have him check your shoulder flexion, internal and external rotation and have him measure your inferior and superior borders of both of your scapulas. Your shoulder issues came from your lack of proper.movememt at the shoulder blade and that will manifest down to the elbow. The neck is also adding to the equation

I can't speak highly enough of ART. I've only had to go in twice for training-related issues and both times ART fixed it.

Sounds like a tricep tear possibly. If that’s the case I’d stop pressing completly and go get an mri before you rupture it completly then your fucked

i never understood lack of proper movement. i been lifting for 20 plus years and technique is spot on lol. never had this issue the first 19 years. so is it really lack of motor pattern or injury now that is causing inefficiency in motor pattern?

It's your motor pattern. Unless you've done olympic lifting for 20 years you are not moving properly. Bodybuilding isn't about moving properly its about segmenting things and building them, not teaching everything to move as a fluid unit.

If he had a full tricep tear he sure as fuck wouldn't be pressing 90s

I didn’t say anything about him having a full tear currently. I said it could rupture completly if he kept training hard on it. Helps if you actually read what’s written down lol

Iv had partial tricep tears and pushed a lot more weight than that. So have a lot of other guys.

Yeah, they can be partially torn for years and then you get the rupture doing the dumbest things, like tripping and catching yourself awkwardly with that arm.

I know when i restarted lifting last year - my right side was weaker because slipped disk in neck or something - So essentially what I did was , a ton of single arm movements for each side, triceps, shoulder, back etc...the weaker side went first then the strong side...but I never let the strong side go higher reps then the weaker side - Reason give the weaker side time to get stronger and heal - or strengthen the surrounding muscles so that both sides kinda even out

It def worked I did that for months - I still do single arm movements especially ones my left side is more dominate - but now its more tricep push down for some reason -

Its like rehab - sometimes in the gym your not making as much progress as you like..but your making progress to Progess much further later - all done in steps

I agree.
I had an elbow injury exactly as described. MRI determined it to be a tricep tear. Pain was exclusively in the elbow, never felt any pain in the tricep. Loss of strength in pressing movements and couldn’t preform extensions as described OP.

oh shit thats what mine sounds like, but my tricep is normal looking no atrophy at all. how do i get that diagnozed, hard to get an mri when your only complaint is i can't bench properly lol.

We have a large orthopedic clinic where I live (tallahassee). I just made an appointment to get my elbow checked and the doctor pretty quickly determined that it was a tricep tear. Did an MRI to confirm and to determine the extent.
You may have to see your primary care physician to get a referral.

when to chiro he did art and said its all mechanical not muscle or tendon. so did alot of adjustments said to report back. but the loss of strength and imbalance is coming from neck shoulder pulling on pec which is pulling on tricep etc. domino affect he said.

Let us know about progress.

Look at that.
