I've recently been unable to get myself motivated in the gym. i actually even skiped a workout last week, i havent done that in 2 years! for some reason i cant get my mind in the right place before a workout. when i go to train i usually have the mindset that im going to wreak havoc in the gym, pick up heavier weights, get more reps, and really take every set to the max(excuse that horrible expression). but lately it feels like i just cant get myself going. i still do every exercise and set the way its supposed to be done but i cant seem to push myself to go above and beyond lately. does anyone else run into this? and how do you get past it? i really want to go to a whole new level in strength and size but its not gonna happen until i get my head in the game.

take a week off
watch pumping iron, go on long weeks, reflect, look at your goals, look at pics of the body you want... do this all during your week off and see how you feel :)

thats gonna suck but ill give it a try. im not into taking time off of anything, shit i havent had a week off of work in 5 years by choice, but if it will help me get going again ill give it a shot.

You definitely need a week or two off. After a week you'll start to get the 'itch' again. After two weeks you wont be able to take it anymore.

Ive taken anywhere from a month to 6 months off before because i was burned out. I always get the fire back after time though.

I think the advice given here is right on. Maybe your body is trying to tell you something. Take a break. Recharge your batteries. Maybe your CNS needs the break. It gets stressed too and needs downtime. Sometimes, I will take what I call an "active rest". I will go to the gym to maintain my routine, but I just "play" with the weights, I don't push myself and I don't give myself a guilt trip about it. Or I may do some body combo workout that I would never do otherwise, just to shake it up temporarily. Or instead of going to the gym, I will substitute a long walk.

agreed take a lil time off,bro you dont have any other active hobbies that take up your time for me the weights is just 1 of my hobbies and what brick said really works just fool around in there get good pumps a lil sweat and thats all it will eventually come back dont trip bro its normal we all take breaks some time or another

Everyone here has given good advice. I recently ran into the same dilemma as you. I just could'nt get into my workouts anymore. Sometimes I would have a set workout in mind and get to the gym and somebody would be on the machine I wanted to start off with. Then, I would get so pissed I would leave. I did'nt know what was wrong with me. Finally, I decided from other people's advice, that it would be best to take a week or two off. During that time I watched bodybuilding dvd's, inspirational movies, read on the net about different workout routines, etc. It really helped out. I was going nuts sitting around for that week watching all the hardcore bodybuilding dvds and reading about other training routines. This is when I first started reading more about DC training. I even ordered the dvd and got so excited watching it that I could'nt wait to get back into the gym and try it out. Since then, I have come back with more intensity and drive in the gym that I have made more progress than ever. Good luck and keep us posted!

take a week off, re-evaluate your training. some times that helps if you are getting boured becouse you have been doing the same stuff for a while. do you lift for recreation? i find if i start to lift for anything but a stress relief i get burnt. then i remember why im lifting and i am like shit i gotta go to the gym.

you could also hire some one like phil. that keeps my ass motivated i fear the caps.

Like the rest of the guys said...Take even a tiny bit of time off and do something fun...I'll go to the shootin range after a days work every once in a long while...After that I'm ready for a damn good nap. I'll lift later after the nap or just early the next day and I'm ret-to-go again!

Take 600 mg L-Tyrosine in the mourning on an empty stomach, don't eat for 45 minutes. Take B6 100mg 3 times a day. Take Humanofort 600mg 3 time per day for 1 week then go to 300mg per day.Eat no sugar, caffeine and little bread. I dont know where you live but if it gets hot stay inside. You are suffering from neurotransmitter burn out and adrenal dysfunction. If you do this you will not have to stay out of the gym as long. You should fell better in a few days. I am very susceptible to burn out so I stay on this year round, never get burned out while on it. I learned this 15 years ago. Good luck

take some time off. it will come back to you if you TRULY love the game.
DVD's often help my motivation like Coleman 'relentless' or Cutlers from 'Jay to Z'

You missed your first workout in 2 years and you're beating yourself up over it?! You are more motivated then most.

Maybe reevaluate your workout schedule and routine; you might need an extra day off or a low intensity day.

Classic case of over training. Listen to the first response to this thread and take a week off. When you come back, focus on form instead of ego and gradually increase the weights. You'll be fine.

well i found out what my problem has been after spending last night in the hospital. Irratible bowel syndrome acting up. i dropped 6 lbs in a week because my body wasnt absorbing any nutrition. now that i have medication for it my doctor said i should be back to normal in a few days.

its probably not very healthy ( mebtally speaking) but one thing that i do that gets me motivated is that i have a empty room in my house with a cd player, tv and dvd player, a huge mirror on one wall, a staionary bike... i go in that room and i have all of my favorite photos of bodybuilders on the edges of my big mirror... and i just hit the poses they are hitting and look back and forth between their physique and mine.. if you want to feel small and soft and motivated as hell to lift some big ass weight and eat an entire horse.. thats a good way ive found to get to that "mindset" quickly...

go on youtube and look up some old strongman tribute videos. Seeing them toss around monster weights always gets me going
