Vegan diet

If ones goal was longevity and a very lean 220 pounder would the vegan diet be the healthiest . I ask because most plants are easier to digest , promote nitric oxide release , higher in potassium and other essential minerals.

How are you determining plants to be easier to digest?

Imo absolutely not. No one would be healthier eliminating meat the vegan thing is almost a cult. Everyone should digest meat perfectly fine and eat a balanced diet. If your trying to eat 8 oz of meat 8x a day that may be tough but doesn't mean that meat Is bad or difficult to digest.

The weight is irrelevant.

And you would've gotten much better replies if you just would've asked what the best healthy/longevity diet/mealplan might look like. Hopping in with an opinion and then asking, "hey, I'm right right?" is a sure way to get limited responses on here. That, or you'll get overwhelmed with the, "what are you talking about?" replies lol.

Why do you suppose that a vegan diet may be the healthiest and that we digest plants so much better? I haven't really seen any evidence pointing to that being true. Not to say that a vegan diet can't be healthy so long as one covers all bases, but there is just this weird notion that anything plant based is best. 'Plant based' is a useless buzz word to fool the ignorant and means absolutely jack dick

I'm not some anti vegan meathead, don't get me wrong, I just don't follow many people's reasoning when they decide, "I'm gonna go vegan to be healthier" without knowing what any of it really means. The biggest issue with the meat industry isn't necessarily the shit they're given while they're being reared for slaughter, but rather the fact that animals we use for meat are incredibly resource intensive, not to mention the awful treatment of the animals

I'm not trying to turn this into a moral dilemma or dissuade you, but if your goal is longevity, I doubt a vegan diet is your answer

Veggies are good for you, you should definitely eat lots of veggies but to restrict natural foods from your diet I don’t think is really needed, I feel like that is an extreme for extreme circumstance
.

This is a tough one because i have seen people go vegan and it helped their health tremendously but they were either morbidly obese, had terrible health issues or really....just girls trying to be stupid skinny. If you go vegan and you actively do resistance training I promise you’re going to fill half your diet with vegan junk food which is much worse for you than any lean meats or dairy. I’m sure you can find outlier examples online where that isn’t the case but do you think you’re one out of those million?

Nothing at all against veganism I think veggies are healthier than anything for our bodies but I think very few peoples lifestyle would be conduscive to doing it properly much less us.

Haha one theme I've noticed with any vegan who works out or is otherwise active... Ravenously hungry ALL the time. They say that's the worst part, you never feel quite satisfied

Makes sense, if you did it all your life that’s one thing but if you’ve been eating meat and dairy all your life and then one day decided to stop....hell yea you’re going to be hungry!!!

A smart, well informed plant based diet it 'probably' the healthiest choice
for just about any reason that comes to my mind.

There is just too much evidence and literature (medical or otherwise) to
support this or ignore it.

Not getting enough protein (and bodybuilders love there protein . . .
to a fault in my opinion) is a huge myth. You can get all your need
on a plant based diet and there are so many other health advantages,
too numerous to mention.

Of course I am biased . . . my wife is a vegan, healthiest person
I know. Fantastic endurance and strength. But she works at it
(nutrition and exercise) just like any serious bodybuilder does so
so it is a wash there in my opinion.

I am close, 95% there. I still love my fresh eggs with a small amount
of meat being ingredient in a meal, not an individual serving and
only occasionally mostly because I like certain dishes so partake with
zero guilt.

Hunger has never been an issue for me or my wife. I swear she lives on
air and water . . . and planet's. I only eat 2x per day with my biggest meal
being breakfast between 10 and 11am. Dinner 5 - 6pm, nothing after that.
And I typically eat what she eats.

The other concern people seem to have is getting enough total calories.
I am not qualified to speak to this directly as it is very individual but will say
that most so called bodybuilders eat way too much, get too fat only to have
to lose it at some point if they want to look good and be healthy. (A very
debatable subject / process.)

I think there is a website called nomeatathlete. May be worth checking out
if you are interesting in going in that direction.

I hope you achieve your goals whatever they may be.

I agree on most bodybuilder eating too much protein and getting too fat. But wouldn't you concede that a vegan would be healthier if they ate omega rich salmon 2 to 3 x a week then if they stuck to being vegan?

While I think most people even those who consider themselves fit over eat and are too fat, a good majority of the population under eat and are malnourished.

If 2 identical twins weigh the same the guy maintaining his weight at 3 k calories should be healthier than the one maintaining at 2k calories.

In my early twenties, I remember this good dude that used to work out at my gym. He started dating this real quack of a chick. She made him go vegan....

4-5 months in I started noticing bags under his eyes and droopy titties. A year in, no bs.... He looked like a completely different guy. Skinny fat, drained in the face. No muscle tone despite his best, average gym goer effort. He never had great genetics but the regression in his physique was staggering.

Chick was a 6 on her best day too.... Cool dude, never understood that. And before you say she was probably a freak or the sex was good. I hit it about a year before he came in the picture, it damn sure wasn't giving up meat for 😁

You make some very good and important points. Thank you.

That is what my Dr. said . . . "omega rich salmon 2 to 3 x a week" so yes,
absolutely or supplement with a plant based 'omega'.

Is there such a thing? (Plant based.)

If and when I eat meat as a serving it is almost always salmon and I love
it!

brocoli, cabbage and kale are 3 things that are guarenteed to mess with my digestion every time. Never had a problem with any meat.

Chia seeds, hemp hearts, Brussels sprouts all contain omegas. I would imagine you would have to eat drastically more to get what you could get from salmon

This is the only supp I take but not as religiously as my wife. It is all
plant based.

Opinions?

A while ago somebody I respect said the very best possible diet would be a well balanced vegan diet with a sprinkling of high quality organic meats and eggs.

Strict vegan diet is not healthy
