Vegies causing REALY bad gass , Yogurt to fix??

The past week I've been eating fresh green vegitibles like broccoli , spinach salad and such as my only source of carbs (where i was using about half and half with fruit) and it seems that this is giving me gas worse and worse. I have also been using LBA's as my main protien source other than egg whites in the AM and one chicken breast in the mid day , the eggs and chicken have always been their just less of it now the only thing thats changed is the amount of LBA's and the increased vegies. The gas startes about a hr after a meal with the vegitables and last for several hrs.

I've tried Bean-o both before and after the meals with zero help , even added a little extra fiber to my diet with no help. A Gastro-interologist that works with my wife said to add a few servings of yogurt each day that the bacteria and enzimes in it will help break down the vegitables but one serving has more carbs than I'm taking ALL day.

Any of you guys have this trouble?? I gotta get it fixed , I bloat up to where its painfull and can't sleep and when I do pass gas its the worst smelling stuff ever , nothing has ven given me the gas and cramps that I'm having now and I've eatin some crazy shit from all over the world.

I guess I can cut out the vegitables all together and just live on LBA's and a little meat but not sure how sane I can stay like that.
 
i do notice i do get pretty bad flatulence on certain vegetables like broccoli, certain bean species and lettuce. However, i switched them over to asparagus and these flatulence symptoms seemed to have minimized or went away. I do also take in a digestive enzyme(has an added anti-flatulence agent in it) before meals and supplement with a lactobacillus acidophilus culture enzyme occasionally during the week(due to costs). So yes,to answer your question, you might wanna try yogurt as it contains this friendly bacteria enzyme that i mentioned just now. I did try yogurt too but stomach somehow didnt seem to agree with it due to the presence of lactose.

I also suggest you play around and experiment with different kinds of green vegetables till you find your happy medium, something that you enjoy eating and your body can deal with easily.

I"m wondering the same thing. I started cooking veg stir fries this week and it hit my girlfriend something fierce. She is bugging me nonstop to fix her gas problem
 
ate some green beans and steamed broccoli yesterday and that seemed to realy help ,, its just nice to eat a crisp cool salad now and then. The GI dr. said to try some of the supps that support proper flora in the gut , so im gonna run by his office and get some this am

Are you eating the green vegetables raw? Raw vegetables are tough to digest and partially digested food that makes its way into colon becomes food for your gut flora (i.e. bacteria) and they produce gases as part of their metabolism[1]. Also, your gut flora composition may be especially gas productive[1].

The logic behind eating the yoghurt is that it will colonise your bowel with bacteria that produce less gas. The good news is that you can get the same bacteria found in yoghurt (and even better ones) in capsule form. This way you can get the benefit without any unwanted carbohydrates. You should be able to find them at healthfood/supplement stores. Look for those that have Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium animalis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium infantis and Streptococcus thermophilus -- they have some evidence behind them (at least in combinations)[2]. Don't get a supplement that just contains Lactobacillus acidophilus there is little evidence that it alone is especially good for anything or that it can successfully colonise the bowel.

Perhaps your bowel motility has slowed down, i.e. the crap is staying too long in your bowel (giving it ample opprotunity to form gas). If you can (partially) empty your bowel then that discomfort will be relieved.
