So I was in a motorcycle accident in Oct of last year. I was bed ridden for over a month. In a wheel chair the month after. Needless to say I got very fat from not training and not eating properly for over 6 months. I have been on a very low calorie diet for the last month. I mean 1000 calories or less a day and have been training hard.

The last two days I have been very nauseous and shitty feeling. My training has suffered because I am exhausted shortly after warm up. The being tired is expected because of the low calories. However the way I am physically feeling is killing me. I am taking a multi vitamin, cla, bcaa, and a protein shake daily.

I guess what I want to know is what kind of damage am I doing to my body training hard on a vlcd? I am going to come off of it at the end of the month (maybe sooner if I dont start feeling better).

Any advise or tips would be nice.

whats your diet consist of? and 1000cals or less is way to low

all your gonna do by training in a calorie defficet that low is burn muscle. You have to be carefull and make sure that your getting enough of the proper nutrients , even getting a ton of protein you can cut your fats and carbs out and end up fucking your self up , trust me i did it last year.

Your body needs to have a certain balance of things to function properly or you will work your self into malnutrition.

why are you doing such a low cal diet?

Well it was a bowl of oat meal. A protein shake. 4 oz of chicken and broccoli. Sometimes salmon instead of chicken.

I know better than to crash diet which is pretty much what this is. I just read how people had great results and wanted to drop a good % of bf.

I am done with this shit. When I get hungry later I am going to have a big ass steak and potatoes from chilis.

Because after my accident all of my muscle atrophied and I ballooned up to 290lbs. I am down to 267 now. AND am still a fucking lard ass. But I cant diet like this any more.

I'll tell you bro , hire a trainer , its the best money you'll spend till you get a solid grasp on nutritional aspect of this shit.

There is no way that a 1000 calorie diet for a 267 pound guy is healthy. Do you know what your BMR is? You will lose probally more muscle then fat on that kind of diet. I would suggest to think long term, then short term. You need an expert like Phil, Alex, or Shelby to help you. That diet will make you sick after a while.

I dont need a trainer. Just a nutritionist. I actually got certified like 4 years ago as a personal trainer. The program didnt really cover nutrition though.

I think this diet is making me sick. Sad thing is I know better. Like I said I was looking for a quick fix and I know better. And everyone here just confirmed what I already knew. I guess I just needed to hear it.

Remember, we are in this for the long, not short term. I am 50 and still working on it.

Well

I would not stress out.........low cal diets are fine.........really, you will be alive in a few years I promise, hahahaha.....lose weight now, you can gain muscle back EASY.........But in my opinion, a certification is not an education.....time educates.........get someone experienced in nutrition and training....EXPERIENCED.........Shelby, Alex......these types. But in reality, WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF A BODYBUILDER.............hunger is your friend

I have been on this low calorie diet for a month now and my hunger is gone. I kid you not yesterday I ate 3/4 bowl of oatmeal before my work out. Then a shake after. 2 bites of dry whole wheat toast. 3 bites of hashbrowns and 2 bites of eggs. My dinner was a whopping 3 bites of salmon and two small pieces of broccoli. I simply couldnt eat.

Phil busts in with the truth. I love it.

He's right. Low cal diets are fine. Low cal diets was how I got lean. I knew the chance of losing strength and muscle was there, but I was on a mission to get lean and I was going to do whatever it took. So I ate 1000 cals a day for a while. I only ate lean meats and vegetables. That's it. Some days I would have carbs and extra cals but I'd pump out a cardio session. I did a full body workout every other day for muscle preservation. Squats/deads/chest press/pull ups

In the end I reached my goal of being lean, and to be quite honest....My strength didn't change much...I mean I was not moving around the same weight as easily, but I was still moving the same weight pretty much. And I did not feel tired and miserable. In fact, I felt quite satisfied. The only thing was when I stood up I would get dizzy. Other than that though I was quite content.

That's probably why you're miserable. You're eating hash browns and toast. You're supposed to eat meat and vegetables on a VLCD/PMSF. You'll be satisfied. Or you can always eat more food and do more cardio.

And you did these crazy things on a low cal diet because........tada..........that is what happens............you get lean and keep the muscle..........if you do it right and you did......you kept the stimulus and supplied the right nutrients.......shed fat and viola! B may get low upon standing.......just check it out.

It sounds like your stomach has shrunk and your body is now accustomed to a low calorie diet.

Spreading your meals out throughout the day combined with a low calorie diet is what speeds the metabolism and hence more body fat is burnt.

In my opinion you can increase your calories slightly by around 200 or 300 calories every 4 weeks and add cardio. Adding cardio to the mix with allow your body to process more calories more efficiently.

Take photos of yourself every 3 weeks and see if you are making progress and adjust calories accordingly.

Good luck mate!

Phil this brings up an interesting question as myself and I am sure others are sooo concerned about loosing muscle while dieting. So if a low calorie diet is done correctly... muscle loss should be minimal, but if you happen to loose more muscle than expected not to worry as its easy to put back on? Is that because of muscle memory or a rebound effect??? I have lost a ton of fat/weight, but have another 20 or 30 to go getting around 10% BF... and I am sure to loose more muscle, but it is easier to put the muscle back on that has been dieted off?? Interesting as I was always soooo concerned with burning muscle when dieting because I thought it was SOOO hard to put back on.

oH YES

I always tell people, lose the fat now..........muscle comes back lightning fast, IF you lose any........

Not to highjack the OP's thread but what calories are you guys counting?

Do you count the daily fish oil caps? do you count greeen veggies?

I've heard a couple differant way , some say that you only count the protein , complex carbs and dietary fats in the meals.

do you eat strickly protein and green vegitibles limiting the fat and carbs with this style dieitng?

I counted every calorie from everything.

And yes to do a VLCD/PSMF you are supposed to eat only lean meats and vegetables for maximum protein, ideally. You can always cheat but you'll have to punish yourself with a cardio session to make up for it. Using this diet I practically saw daily results, which is what gave me the motivation to keep doing it.
