Waking up early

Typically when I diet down and get to my leanest, I will wake up at 5 or 6 am and not be able to get back to sleep. I feel awake and want to get in fasted cardio vs just lay in bed, so not tired.

Lately I've had this happen for about a month but I'm not distinct, actually eating in what should be a small surplus but weight is not going up. Maybe an indication something going on, NEAT, whatever combo of foods I'm eating, what should be a surplus is maintenance.

But anyway, sleep is averaging 6-7. I know lack of sleep is bad, but do you consider sub optimal sleep due to waking up early ready to go the same as insomnia and fucking around staying up too late? Do sleep needs change over time?

I try naps during the day but I'm not really tired I don't fall asleep. Lifts in the gym are going up as usual so it's not affecting my strength or performance.

Man, I usually wake up at around 4:30am with no alarm clock daily..doing a cut right now and I am waking up at 3:10am daily for some damn reason with no alarm clock

That's how it usually goes for me too. Calories go down, weight goes down, body wakes up earlier lol. That's why I'm surprised I'm waking up so early now without cutting.

I always feel like I get better rest when I go to sleep with a near empty or empty stomach. I would think the body has an easier job of recovering and doing its job overnight while I sleep without having to digest. Kind of makes sense to what youre describing.

Just roll with it. Just make good use of your time awake, read, work, cook, exercise (cardio?), hobbies, or just lay there and think about all the shit you could or should be doing 😉

For a while there, not too long ago I would wake up at 3am and that is after going to bed at 11pm. My wife said just get up and do something about instead of complaiing about it (she is like that; is not for everybody). So I started getting up and doing things. I felt great. Over time I slowly drifted back to a later wake up time which is 5 - 6am.

I had tried trying / taking various sleeping pills . . . most worked, some too well but I did not want to ride that train so I got off and slowly, with patience and meditation, I am back to a comfortable sleep pattern.

One quick note about naps. Okay for some, a disaster for others. If a must, keep them short, ~20 min.

Oh, and don’t eat before going to bed or get up to eat. This is your time to rest and grow. Let your body do so.

Lastly, bed, long term usage, keep it restricted to sleeping or sex (if your preference). Anything else sends a mixed signal. Reading, game playing, watching TV (is porn okay to watch in bed?) may be incompatible for your sleep. In short, keep the bed reserved for sleep.

That is it off the top of my head. If I think of more or piggy back on others, I will post.

The bottom line is if it is not causing you any problems do not fight it based on what you think is ‘normal’. Like I said at the start, just roll with it . . . it will change.

Over my career I consistently asked the oldest patients (90yo+) that would come in how they lived so long. One consistent answer was to not eat before bed and always go to bed early.

👍

The old saying . . . Early to bed and early to rise makes a man bla bla bla . . .

My wife has always maintained that if you are having problems with sleep you did not walk far enough that day.

Sleep disruption can be a sign of stress. Any areas in your life that may be impacting your sleep?

consistent rhythms is good but nice to get in some sleep in days too

My alarm is set to 4 AM, I never make it. I get up around 3 AM each day. Last 3 nights were odd (12:30 AM twice and 1 AM last night).
I was falling asleep at 6 PM though the past few nights, but I normally sleep 7PM to 3 AM. I'm in the gym lifting at 6 AM.

Took a 2-hr nap today, so I hope to be back to my 3 AM-ish "wake" tomorrow. Wish I could sleep til 4AM, but it just doesnt happen...

Work. But some weeks are more stressful than others. I have had some easy weeks lately and it's still happening. One odd thing, I've been having dreams every night. Rarely ever have dreams

Sleep patterns do change as people get older. Sleeping well gets tougher with for most age. I think by age 30 people are starting to make less melatonin. Some guys have to start getting up to take a piss, sometimes more then once a night. I don't watch news or get into any emotional talks for the last 2-3 hours before i sleep as i want peace leading up to it. You can look into blue blockers if you are using a digital device in the hours before sleeping. and if you are stressing some about not sleeping that can hamper sleep as well.

Waking up early before needed and unable to sleep longer sounds to me similiar to insomnia. I struggle with both, currently pretty bad too.

I have been hospitalized a handful of times for going over 4 days without sleep
thats kind of dramatic.
i have gone through long periods of only sleeping 2x wk a bunch of times.
it isnt healthy but totally doable.

dieting and training hard can do a number of things to you that will fuck up sleep paterns. there are lots of ways to work with it.

Mine isn’t from dieting or training..just TBI and such..I’m not even tired when I go that far..just weak with no depth perception

I suffer from insomnia and to me there are only 3 things worse. Stomach ache, toothache and not being able to get a boner. Having insomnia is bad worrying about Out it is worse

I'd say as long as you sleep 6 to 7 hrs and wake up without an alarm but totally rested, have good function during the day, can recover well from what you do and don't need to take naps during the day you're good. Apparently you simply had enough sleep.

I go through this as well especially around Day Light Savings. If you fall asleep fine I'd not worry about it. If you don't, it could be a sign of over-reaching.
