Water on contest day?

I tried to put a search in for this but too many topics on water came up. So sorry if this question is getting old. But how much water do you guys take in on show day? And is being drug free have anything to do with your water intake on show day? I've always drank water on contest day expect for my first show,and looking back I was a lot drier when I cut water(expect for sips) but and not as full. But when my water is close to a gallon I'm Full and can get a good pump and I feel good, but just not as crispy! Lanye norton swears if you cut out water for a natural guy your going to look like shit on stage, and says cutting water actually makes you spill water? Can some one please put this to rest for me? Thanx

It's a great question that is just like Lenny said "individual decision".

Speaking for myself I think this is one of the biggest topics that guys "blow it" on when prepping for shows and the final days of the show. I have been down this road many times and the first heck 15 to 20 shows I would stay at 2 gallon a day to Thursday. Then 1 gallon by 6pm Friday then 4 or 5oz with meals through prejudging. I was always dry and crisp. That being said once I was lean each morning I would get up in the am 3 or 4 weeks out and think "shit" I could go compete at any local show. Once we get our BODY FAT down your look each morning should be the best all day. SO, my last several and biggest shows of my years I kept water HIGH (for me) through Friday night. Got up early show morning had that bigger first meal with 16oz water, next meal 16oz water. Since these were National shows our prejudging was 6:00pm I just taper my water at each meal. By the time I stepped on stage I had well over a gallon in me. Full, ripped, grainy (I'm older) and all the stuff you hope for. Meanwhile I see guys there telling me they have had 32 oz since Thursday or something crazy.

I have learned to embrace water. I flows so well in the body when you keep it high. You brought up Layne name. I have read most of his stuff and he is DEAD on. I was glad to see you bring him up.

Now all that being said I believe we as body builder have to manage our water through out the prep. Never just think I'll pull it out in the end using some kind of meds. Most guys screw up the meds in the ends looking for just a bit more off the body.

Carbs!

K,Thank you for taking your time to respond, I really appreciate it! You sound like you know what your doing. Do you think the greatest cause for holding water is being over carbed. And eating the right amount of carbs in the right pattern( for your body type) during the week before and the morning of is key! and as long as your not over carbed ( like 90% of competitors at amateur shows)you can drink as much water as you want? I know that endomorphs have the biggest disadvantage, they have to deal with a much greater potential for spilling over.and ectomorphs are a lot less likely to spill due to the fact they use carbs faster because of there metabolism! so I take that into consideration while trying to peek! (I'm very ectomorphic) and while were at it.If you will; The whole sodium thing is not really that important(keep it simple) and as long as you start your sodium high then drop it, but not cut it totally out you should be ok in that department? And as far as potassium? Don't even worry about it. Correct? Sorry I know this is a long loaded question. And is pretty much based on the individual. but you kinda have to start somewhere, right? Bring on that knowledge!!

Peek week!

Here's what I normally do for peek week; Saturday & Sunday. Protein 220g Carbs are low at 90g. And fat stays the same all week at 30g. No weight training Saturday & Sunday: I start salting all my meals. 2 to 4 shakes per meal. And water is high at 2 gallons a day. Monday: Protein 200g Carbs are higher at 220g. Still salting all meals. Water high at 2 gallons. Last leg training day. Tuesday: Protein 200g. Beginning to slowly drop Carbs- 160g. Salting, 2 to 4 shakes per meal. Water is the same 2 gallons.Weights, light Back, bis, traps. Light to moderate cardio.Wednesday:protein back up to 220. Carbs are lowered to 100 and salting is taken back a little to 1 shake per meal.Chest,delts ,tris. Thursday: Protein 230. Carbs. are at there lowest, 90. No salt added. Water is lowered to 1.5 gallons. Light upper body pump. Light cardio. Friday. Protein 200 Carbs are at there highest,260. Salt is less! But not less than 1g. Water is dropped to 1 gallon. And no training! Just posing! Show day:1st meal or 6 hrs before prejudging: 1/2 cup white rice, 4oz steak. Second meal or 4hrs before; One detour bar. Third meal/ optional or 2hrs before: 3oz sweet potato, 3oz sirloin steak. 1 hour before show time depending on how tight I am: 6" subway(anything really)! High Fat, high Carb, high Sodium meal.20 mins before stepping on stage; 2 rice cakes with Pb and jelly! Water is 8oz with meals and 12oz between meals. Please tell me what you think? Thank you!
 
listen to k my man i went with what k told m for water the week of my show and i peeked at the right time and obviously the water has alot to do with it look for my thread k has alot of input and it helps 100%....good luck man
