Cant really find what im looking for local and wondering if anyone knows a reputable website or online retailer. I know we have alot of married ppl and recently engaged so just throwing this out there to see if anyone can help...

thanks in advance

ty

www.jewelryexchange.com

I went there in person. Same deals on the net. Real good prices and quality. Do a little research before you shop because they speak of the diamonds in gemologist terms.

Good luck and congrats.

Diamonds can vary a lot in quality, color, flaws, etc. I think I would want to make the decision in person even if I had to travel. I would want to examine it in detail, compare, etc. (with magnification if needed). Just my personal opinion...

i 2nd that...dont buy anything like that online. thats something your gonna wana see in person b4 you purchase it.

What are you looking for?

If it's a certain ring/setting you could always buy that online without a diamond and have someone local put the diamond in.

If your looking for something custom I can pm you two names.

btw, I tried for months to find that perfect ring. In the end I got something cheap at Kays and she LOVED it.

Buy a car. ;)

Thanks so far guys, haha nosmas thats exactly where i'd like to put the cash but you know how females are with diamonds, the bigger the better at least thats how my girl is....

www.bluenile.com, high quality and you can hand pick the diamonds, on an $8,000 platinum and diamond ring I paid about half compared to what other retailers wanted, e.g. zales, kays, etc.

I'm the last one to ask about "THE" ring...

I'm 33 and never been married. LOL.

Anyway, congrats bro.

May your happiness last a lifetime.

P.S. If you ain't no punk halla WE WANT PRE-NUP WE WANT PRE-NUP! :p

Good luck!

:D

Go with COLOR over CLARITY, no one will ever be able to tell the difference and you'll get more stone for your money. And get a certified stone, make sure your shit is legit with paper work and an appraisal. I did my homework on this for a while before i bought my wife her ring.

im all for www.bluenile.com for the even the setting and then as they said get the stone placed locally.. also if you located in california. robbins brothers is AMAZING!!!

Wow!

I told my wife before we got engaged how much an engagement ring would cost. She was like, "Uh, why do we need one of those? Spend the money on something that's actually useful." I love my wife. :D

I ended up making a cheap piece of engraved jewelry for her. Cost me about $10, and had far more sentimental value.

Thats a well grounded woman! Also an awesome idea! Way to think outside the box.

All i have to add is.....are you sure....don't do it.......run for the hills......good luck to you fella. :D

Buying diamonds has always been the one purchase/investment I have felt most tentative about. I've always bought locally, however, even then it is confusing. The fact is I'm not a gemologist and never will be. I also have imperfect information about the diamond market and always will. The seller is in every sense better prepared for the transaction than I am. With that said I do believe there are some ways to "Even the field".

There are many links on the net to "learn" how to select diamonds. You will get the basics of color, cut, clarity, carats etc on all of them. On a few you will learn what effects each has.

The easiest way to even the playing field is to only consider diamonds with a GIAA certification. These will have been graded by a certified gemologist and you receive the papers detailing the findings such as the occlusions and where they occur in the stone etc. These tests cost between $175 and $300 or so and that cost is built into the stone. Many Jewelers will represent a stone of a certain color and lay it on the counter, but when you ask for a certified stone of the same color and place beside it, its obvious they were "stretching". Be ware of other certifications. I'm sure they are other reputable ones but this seems to be the grandaddy of them all. Again, especially if considering an internet purchase, this will give you the best assurance. Well worth it in my opinion. Its like buying a used car and the guy selling it says "Yeah it runs good" Versus a complete printout of all work performed, not performed when needed, and known problems.

I don't know what your budget is, but it is customary on smaller or cheaper stones not to have the certifications but if your spending $8k to $25k or so, I would not buy one without it.

Good Luck

Don't buy a diamond online. I bought a 1.5 Carat Solitaire online and it said it was D color. I got it and it was almost H-I color. I was not happy, luckily they returned my money and took the stone back. Lesson learned. Find an independent diamond dealer/broker in your area. You will get more diamond for your money. Stay away from mall and corporate jewelry stores, you will pay out the nose for a lower quality stone. My personal favorite designer is Michael Beaudry. **broken link removed**
