THE SOUND QUALITY SORTA SUCKS...I ACTUALLY LIKE MY SONY CD PLAYER BETTER. WE BOUGHT THE 'CREATIVE' ZEN NANO.....ANY OPINIONS ON THIS PLAYER OR OTHERS THAT YOU'D RECOMMEND?

I AM SORT OF TICKED OFF. MY LG CELLPHONE TURNS ON AND OFF THROUGHOUT THE DAY....FOR NO REASON. IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS HAUNTED OR SOMETHING. LATELY I'VE BEEN SPENDING MONEY AND GETTING CRAPPY MERCHANDISE.

MAIN QUESTION: WHAT MP3 PLAYER DO YOU HAVE AND WHICH WOULD YOU SAY IS A VERY GOOD ONE. [OR ONE TO STAY AWAY FROM?]

i have an ipod mini and i love it... software was a pain in the ass the first time i installed it, after that, its great.

i used to have a Samsung Yepp... that was good too.

sound quality is going to depend on the bitrate of your mp3s. the higher the bitrate, the better the sound.. .however, it also takes up more space

i have an ipod shuffle, it holds something like 250 songs....which i come no where near. i love it because its small and lightweight, and holds way more than enough songs for me, i just put it in my pocket and forget about it. its cheaper than that mp3 player as well (i believe)...it was really worth it imo.

I have a creative muvo that I'm fairly satisfied with. I prefer the flash based players over those with hard drives, but they don't hold as much music, yet. I would also prefer a player that has a display, and supports playlists. The iRiver players looks like they might be a good upgrade from the Creative. As far as sound quality, a good cd player will usually sound better, but there are ways to improve sound quality out of the digital player. Like Pickles said, use a high bit rate - 128K or higher. Also, replace the earbuds that came with it. I recommend a set by Shure - they sound great and will last a lot longer than cheaper ones.

As far as getting crappy quality, thats the American way. Everything's disposable, even workers.

I agree for the Mp3, The Ipod is the best Ive seen.
Same as you though I like my Cd player better so I just burn the cd`s
and seems to work better for me, The Wife has a few Mp3 players though
and the Ipod is by far superior to the others.

As far as cell phones Ive always been told You want Nokia or Motorola.

Where you getting your music? Limewire?

I-River 512mb player is what I have and it rocks. The software is really simple to use and its about the same size (the player) as a pack of gum. I have about 150 songs on there and thats all I need. I have had it for about 2 years now and I wouldnt think of replacing it at all.

SOUNDS LIKE ALL THE REST OF YOU ARE VERY HAPPY WITH YOUR PLAYERS. I ON THE OTHER HAND SEEM TO HAVE A DUD. ON THE WAY HOME IN THE TRUCK LAST NIGHT I RECORDED A SONG OFF MY CD PLAYER. MAYBE IF I ACTUALLY TRY LIMEWIRE AND THE DOWN LOADING IT WILL SOUND BETTER.

I have been through a few I my favorite by far Is the new Samsung I just got. Very small with a built in clip. I actualy clip it on my shirt collar when working out. Never gets in the way. Its 1MB and sounds fantastic and runs about $149

yes, get different headphones and buy the insurance or extended warranty... you're gonna be sweating on it, beating it with weights, dropping food on it... all the good stuff

It's a good idea to check some reviews first. There aren't too many places I check, so it's not as much bother as it sounds.

1. The New York Times has a thorough review section of all personal tech items. This section is online at no charge. They might require you to register, but there's no cost, spam, or gimmick:

2. The Washington Post doesn't keep an ongoing list of all items that are on the market, but the do review items as they come out. So it makes interesting reading, but you can't turn to it on the day you want to buy something and expect all available items to be there reviewed in detail;

3. There are some tech sites, like http://www.cnet.com;

4. There are also consumer sites like Epinions.com where consumers review products on their own.

If you're not hapy, you can go to cnet and epinions and post your opinion.

Generally, I'd say the New York Times is the easiest to use.

THESE MACHINES ARE VERY DIFFERENT THAN CD PLAYERS THEY PLAY FROM A CONSTANT CURRENT OR A PULSE IF YOU WILL, THEY READ THE MUSIC AS IF IT WERE A FILE BUT IT READS THIS FILE AT A CONSTANT RATE SO THE QUALITY OF THE MUSIC SHOULD BE AS GOOD AS THE CD. ALSO THERE ARE ALOT OF TUNNING YOU CAN DO IN ORDER TO TWEAK THE QUALITY OF SOUND BY USING THE EQUALIZER ON IT. BECOUSE OF THE WAY THESE MACHINES ARE SET UP THERE IS SOME TIMES MORE THAN ONE SOUND QUALITY SETTINGS CONTROL ON ONE PLAYER. ANOTHER WAY ABOUT GETTING BETTER SOUND IS THE HEADPHONES, IF THE HEAD PHONES ARE NOT RESPONSIVE TO THE SOUND CONTROLS IN THE PLAYER THEN WHAT IS THE POINT? I HAVE AN IRIVER VERY EXPENSIVE BUT THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST ON THE MARKET. MY HEAD PHONES COST TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS AND ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY. THE PROBLEM WITH IPODS ARE THAT YOU CAN ONLY DOWN LOAD SONGS FROM CERTAIN COMPANYS ON THE WEB LIKE NAPSTER. WHERE AS IRIVER YOU CAN DOWNLOAD ANY SOFT WARE AND ANY WEB MUSIC. SO THE IPOD IS LIMITED IN THAT ASPECT BUT GOOD AS WELL I PERSONALLY WOULD BUY A CREATIVE IF I COULDN'T AFFORD AN IRIVER THEY HAVE PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN THERE 20G AND 40G DRIVES ARE GREAT FOR THE MONEY MY BOSS USES THE 20G AND LOVES IT.

I have a creative zen and I like it and the guy that I train with has one too and he loves it. He switched from an ipod mini. My brother has the larger version from creative and loves it also. The only thing that I don't like about the Zen is you can't seperate music by genre. That would make it better and the sound is better than some. I might try changing them to the ones recomended in this thread

I have the ipod mini and I love it. The one extra thing that I bought that has more than doubled my enjoyment of it is the earbuds I got. The ones that come with the ipod are crappy. I bought shure e2c, earbuds. They are awesome. I think they were close to 70 dollars us with shipping. But I would have paid more. Anyway, good luck.
