Arnold Palmer, the pants-hitching, chain-smoking son of a greenskeeper who helped transform golf from an elite country club pursuit to a sport for the masses, winning every major honor the game has to offer along the way, has died at age 87, the U.S. Golf Association said Sunday.

Arnold Palmer, the Everyman 'King' of Golf, Dies at 87 - NBC News

a sports legend, and universally known as a great person...RIP

RIP Arnold

I was at The Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando last March and he looked very frail and weak. He was a good man!

Watched parts of a documentary about him at the gym yesterday.

Man was a legend.

RIP

His drink lives on forever. Everyone orders it at work when we go out. Virgin or with alcohol. It don't matter ...

I wonder if it had something to do with steroids?

Arnie was kinda before my time. I did play a lot of golf at one point in my life. My bro, who I played with said my swing kinda resembled his(lol). I was TRYING to model Ben Hogan, but I guess I wasn't as flexible. So I was a little shorter on the backswing and relied on arm strength to "muscle" the ball down the course.
I think what I dig most about the senior golfers, is that they had their own very unique swing that worked for them and made them a fortune. They learned on their own from hours and hours on the range and playing many rounds, how to hit a golf ball and control it. They weren't influenced by Golf Digest, or a video on how they were supposed to look. They also interacted with the crowd, they didn't ignore them because they couldn't be "distracted" with their next swing.

RIP Arnold.

Pesty:

Was lucky enough to be in his "presence" a couple times out at night. Not a partier at all, but can regal a story. I was young, dumb, and instructed not to speak. Still in awe.

When I was a bit older and went to the Masters before it got over the top hard to attend, the practice on Tuesday, and Wednesday par 3, never really were a thing. Anyone who wanted a ticket got one. You could walk the entire freakin' course on Wednesday and I did. No more. Behind the ropes with you!!

Golfers were much looser. Big John Daly and Arnie were on the driving range at the same time before they moved and raised the nets for Daly the next year. They were kidding around and Arnold gave his driver to Daly to hit with. The first try, it looked like a fly fishing rod bent around his body! In two more strokes he learned to wait on it, and hit balls over the net with Arnolds' driver.

It was so neat to see The King show interest and kindness to the "kid". He is not The King for nothing.

I do have Picts somewhere, just need to find them. Embarassed that Alfresco will see same.
