What are "extended" sets?

I'm reading through a routine in this month's Flex Magazine and have come across a term that I'm not used to.

"Extended sets"

Are these the same as super-sets?

Incline Dumbell Press 3x8-10
extended set with:
Flat Dumbell Flyes 3xfailure
Incline Dumbell Presses 3xfailure
Flat Dumbell Presses 3xfailure

2 minute rest between sets.

I would think it to be the same as a superset or giant set. I don't understand what is written there; maybe I'm rading it wrong.. Looks like way to many high intenity sets the way that appears to be laid out. You would have to use almost no weight and work way past your pump.

How long do you guys rest between heavy sets?

I was wondering...

How long do you guys rest between heavy sets. I try to rest no more than 1 minute between sets but when I am training heavy, I find it more effective to rest at least 1.5 minutes between sets.

What's your take on rest between sets?

It depends what your goals are....

My goals is psyche, I rest about 1 min between. Its easier to keep pace with a partner (he goes, then I go). If Im feeling particularly weak, Ill give in an extra 30 sec or so...

If your a power lifter, it is recommended that you rest 3-5 min between sets.

Hope this give you some insight...

Are they trying to say you do the incline dumbell presses first then go directly to all of those other exercises one after another without rest and thats one set? If so, it sound like what they used to call Giant Sets. That would be tough and sure to make you good and sore a day or two later!

Yep... Good case of DOMS right there!!

Go to youtube and search for Tom Platz and you will understand what an extended set is.

take a set of a particular exercise then apply the term "extended to it"!! LOL

Without looking it up I believe it is taking a nomal set well beyond where you would normally stop, like forced reps but much more intense.
