What bp med protocols are all you Professionalmuscle OG’s on these days?

last time I was 95/64
If you feel ok with that BP then that is ok. It puts a lot less stress on your heart. Im ok until my diastolic gets down below 60, then I am getting orthostatic hypotension symptoms bad and just feel like shit overall. I also have heart failure, so things for me might be different than for you.

I also use 10mg of cialis M-W-F , i have slightly abused cialis in the past and have dropped my blood pressure to low,,and man i feel like total shit when it gets to low,,i would rather have high pressure lol.

As I posted I can currently control my bp without needing loads of meds. Certain herbal supplements help keep it in range when I am blasting and putting on weight. I am on 80mg telmisartan now but I am not on it all the time. However I know as I grow my blood pressure will get high without these aids so I am happy to use them. Of course I could lose 50 pounds and my bp would lower but I obviously don't want to. We are on a bodybuilding board so obviously many of us like or want to be very big. Nothing about getting big is healthy but if I can minimize the damage to my health through cardio and supplements I will use them as tools.

Now as I get older my goals will 100% shift and I will be happy at a max of 230 and will set goals in other areas of fitness (cardio output and just looking as good as possible at a small bodyweight). For now I will push the size a bit more and I would rather use meds/supps to put my bp in range compared to what many do and just walk around with high blood pressure untreated for years. Incidentally my mum has low bp and my dad is on bp meds and he weighs about 160 and has never taken a steroid or trained in his life.

Great thread and perfect timing for me. Been on BP meds in the past and looking to get back on to get my BP back down. This morning it was 137/79 and this is relatively the norm with it fluctuating between 135-140/75-85. Was on Lisinopril at 10mg a day and that helped but didn't bring it into that ideal range. For the last year been using Cialis everyday from 10mg to 30mg a day with 20mg being the normal daily dose as of late, but this isn't completely doing the trick for me either so I'm strongly considering adding in a true BP med back into the mix. Definitely watching this thread.

Yeah. My body is pissed at me. Genetically I’m blessed though. My grandma has had health issues since she was 30. She’s 96 now. My dad has cancer and diabetes but he’s still kicking along.
I’m just glad I’m realizing that you guys still lift hard and heavy while on bp meds and you’re not getting constant injuries like I did on clonidine. I thought they all would be the same bad news for the gym.
My order of telmisartan just got approved so when it arrives I’ll take 80mg telmisartan and 10mg lisinopril. Studies show taking both is superior to one alone for bp. Until it arrives I’ll keep taking Nebivolol with lisinopril.

How have you been doing, Bio?

I had the weirdest, uncommon reaction to BP meds. The doctor put me on Amlodipine first and that made REALLY tense and angry, not like me. Then it was switched to Lisinopril which made feel the exact opposite, overly sensitive and emotional. Then I was put on Losartan and when I took it every other day it was ok but when I used it daily I started getting that agitated angry feeling again. Now I've worked up to every day again and for the most part it's ok. On occasion I'll start getting that feeling again and I usually skip a day or break the pill in half, it's 25mg. The doctor said she had never heard of those side effects before. I was only on 250 to 375mg of Test and a little Deca at the time too.

This is all dose-dependent due to need, but does anybody use a smaller dose of 20 mg/d of Telmisartan and do well?

This is interesting because I’m real emotional. Maybe it’s the lisinopril. I have tears right now watching an Adam Sandler movie. Haha 😆.
Last night, I was super angry which isn’t like me at all. I couldn’t figure out why. I’m only on 175mg test and 100mg deca. I just got over the flu yesterday so I also finally have my appetite back and sex drive is very high. Maybe it’s just a reaction to being better and everything is kicking in again. I feel happy today. The tears are good tears. I feel alive again. The flu is nasty this year.

If you are 40+ and well above 200lbs, you are, in most cases, struggling with high BP. There is a point you have to decide what health choices you make. Going forward, eating a diet high in carbohydrates, you will be faced with insulin issues (insulin resistance). I am well past 60, take 10mg amlodipine for bp, watch my carbs as I am insulin resistant but not diabetic, this is something I have control over. Do I look like I did in my late 50's, early 60's ? No. I have 6 first place finishes in over 50 and 60. But I still look far better and am much healthier than most my age. Time will pass....you will all age. Your health will hit you in the face one day..... You will reach a point that your health means more than how you look...Sorry, this is not a rant.

My entire life, my blood pressure has been on the higher end of normal. I was always told that since I'm young, they didn't want to put me on anything. Well, I had an accident at work the other day and had to be sent to the ER (nothing truly major). The nurse, hot as hell but a bitch, ran my blood pressure. I asked what it was and she just said "high! Are you anxious, nervous?" No, but I have an odd boner. They took it again and it read the same. It eventually came down, but the spike scared the shit out of me and could have caused me to stroke out without me even feeling like it. They put me on Norvasc. I figure at 35 I'm not a young, young man anymore. It still remains what it's always been, but I'm staying in it, just in case.

Currently on a beta blocker (coreg), an ace inhibitor (losartan), and at Dante's recommendation, Ubiquonol, Pycnogenol, Apigenin, and Curcumin. Also, low sodium diet. Of course most importantly, zero GH and only trt level test.

Great thread, glad people are chiming in with knowledge and personal experience

For those on amlodipine, does anyone get any facial and upper chest flushing/redness? I just started 5mg and I have been experiencing the aforementioned symptoms.

I used to get that flushing when I was on gear. I take a large dose of beta blocker and a small dose of ace inhibitor now and dont get that.

Facial flushing is a known side effect of CCBs like Amlodipine. However, it is quite rare, especially in males (~2 in 100).

Have any of you had any luck with supplements like Carditone? If so, what brand, dosage, etc?

I just started taking the supplements Dante recommended about a week ago. Ubiquonol, Pycnogenol, Apigenin, and Curcumin. All available on Amazon, all backed up by impressive research studies in medical journals.

Has also mentioned Carditone. His mention of it is part of why I'm interested in it.

80mg Telmisartan/daily.
After my last trip to see my PCP (BP: 142/87), I'm adding back 5mg Amlodipine. Took 10mg Amlodipine for years with good BP control but I had this frustrating cough that I assumed was due to Amlodipine, more common with ACE inhibitors. Not so sure of that now as it's not considered one of the normal side effects of Amlodipine. I definately had the swelling in the ankles though. Hopefully the addition of the Amlodipine gets me back into the 120's/70's.

I coughed all the time on amplodipine in 2001. But they supposedly improved it.
