what footwear do you prefer to squat in

Socks! Barefoot allows the foot to collapse properly during a deep squat, which leads to proper knee tracking. A chiropractor explained it to me in detail and it made sense.

That Chiro entitled to his "opinion." This one not so sure. Been by the best squatters in the world. Seen em trained with em. None go barefoot. Zero. After years of wearing shoes you feet get "used to" the arch and ankle support thus weakening anterior talofibular ligament along with others. Then to take your shoes off and load 3,4,500 pounds on a weakened ankle joint is not ideal in this "chiros" opinion. And since when did a chiro become a podiatrist or an orthopaedic surgeon? Chiros should stick to what they learned- the spine. Not the dick, not the foot.

vibram five fingers sprint. I have a ruptured disc in my back and wearing them has alleviate back pain from leg day. Use to wear nike shox

$25.00 Converse Chucks bro. Like going barefoot with the ankle support. What I got all my HS College and Pro athletes wearin. They carry a pair in their bag for squat and dead day. Target has em. Unless your a serious LD runner no need for those ugly things plus they offer little support if ya go that route just go in your sox.

Here ya go from an expert about these barefoot shoes:

Dr. Robert A. Kornfeld: Barefoot Running Shoes: How Effective Are They?[/QUOTE

I thought we were discussing footwear for squatting, not running. Squating in typical running shoes gave me knee pain due to the cushioned sole which gives and is unstable. I have squatted in chucks and loved them. I wear the vibrim because I dont have to take them off to train calves (they give the flexibility of being barefoot) and also provide great traction and a "no give" sole for squatting.

I just got the Vibram five fingers as well and they are AWESOME!
I now wear them exclusively to the gym, no more shoes!

In my powerlifting days that is what I used for most of my competitive career but towards the end I had trouble walking in the morning due to arch pain.

I switched to a shoe with arch support and it went away.,

Now I use Nike Trainer 1.2.

Great shoe.

Always weightlifting shoes. Nothing really compares IMO. There's a reason oly lifters use them =)

Socks here. I will squat no other way but barefoot.

barefoot or puma driftcats

I use the Five Fingers sometimes when I do legs or deadlift, but I have became a fan of NIKE Dunks on those days. Flat and pretty comfy.

Chuck Taylor's by Converse. I just bought a pair paid $40. Inzer makes a squat shoe but the price is over $100. Can't beat Chuckies for the price. I've seen many powerlifters sport them at meets too.
