What happens when your hemoglobin is too high at donation?

Just gave blood and my hemoglobin was 19.5. I think I read on here that if you're at 20 usually they won't accept you. What do you do then if you can't donate and your blood is too thick?

I'm on 150/150 test and deca currently.

You can donate more often to avoid being denied. Have your Dr. write a script for a therapeutic phlebotomy. Or do it yourself which i would avoid doing on my own

Been on those doses for about 4 months and gave blood probably about 6 months ago.

I've asked many (at least 4-5 different ones) phlebotomists at blood banks and every time they have told me that they regularly take people over 20 even though the rules say not to.

I find it hard to believe if a blood bank has a certain rule, they would jeopardize thier jobs over it. I know personally Houchin Blood bank will not ever take you at even 20. Red Cross has over their website that hemoglobin can't be over 20. They are the main suppliers of blood.

No brother. Because it's simply not true. It's illegal. Not only would they lose their jobs but they would be prosecuted and never be able to have that career anywhere again.

If it’s over they will not let you donate, if it was something like blood pressure they’ll give you 5 minutes and take it again.
