For me looking so much tighter and drier in the morning than at night? I know the obvious answer: all the food you eat during the day. But I notice that even on days when I eat VERY little, and even on days where I have had close to 0 calories, my skin seems to hang looser and I seem to hold more sub-Q water at night. Why is this?

I find the same happens to me. I put it down to sweating out sub q water during the night when wrapped up.

The same reason you're taller. Gravity.
Fasting helps and dehydration. But all things being equal, gravity has the effect you're asking about.

While you sleep, all the food in your gut is processed and as soon as you wake, you take a huge piss, dumping out any excess water u didnt need, you are completely empty and WAM! You look tight and lean! As the day progresses, you start eating and drinking fluids and WAM, not tight no more. This is only because as soon as you put some water into your body, the body is going to hold onto this water to carry out its daily tasks and keep you functioning thruout the day. The body has no knowledge nor does it care about what you want to "look" like, it only has one task and that is to keep you alive and feeling ok. Then you go to sleep and the cycle repeats itself.

If you want to stay tight and lean, keep carbs to an absolute minimum, and this will prevent u from holding onto too much water

Not ingesting food or water for an extended period of time and moisture expelled during breathing. Also generally I have urinated in the morning prior to weighing myself and it is always two to three lbs difference from the night before.

i not one for a "scientific" response

but.......

you simply dont need the extra fluid when you sleep....
hence pissing 4 or 5 times a night for me
i'm always 5,6 lbs lighter(tighter) in the morning

your basically dehydrated in the morning

You can loose up to a quart of water a night in a cool region just through respiration, add a fan as many of us do due to our size and it's even more. Your skin has a chance to "exercise" it's elasticity since you don't move as much. Of course, if you're an old fart like me, you don't notice that.

I piss sometimes 4 or 5 times at night (try to get 7-8 hours sleep) and am usually 4-6 pounds lighter in the mornng too. Good to hear this is normal for some of us.

Cortisol. cortisol levels spike in the morning and early afternoon. They are lowest from evening to morning. Cortisol causes fluid retention. some foods cause more inflammation in the gut and systemically which could also explain daytime water retention. Good question.
