If its not to personal to discuss I'm just wondering how long people have lay off from weights or training and what was the reason.
Injury boredom work??

I'm having constant knee pain along with tweaks here and there and so I'm considering an extended lay off to let things rest

If it was injury did you just rest the body part for an extended period or rest Alltogether

I once injured my low back and took time off only to realize that keeping your body tuned up properly is better than time off. Yet the break allowed for a huge mental break. So I took maybe 1-3 months off with no exercise. Yet learned a lot about physical therapy, stretching, allignment exercises and eating for health rather than for muscle growth. It felt like a mental vacation. I slowly healed and I integrated more strength and power exercises as my body allowed. Now that I went through everything I feel better than prior the injury. I would say this was a one year transition to where I had a new system to workout and diet routine. I'm glad I did this anyway despite the injury initiating the process. I am in better shape and my joints don't hurt. And if they do I know how to get them better quickly.

I would stay active and not just shut down and become inactive. Stretch, go for massages, do physical therapy, do other enjoyable activities and eat for health for a period. Then slowly get to where you want to be.

I'm at 13 months right now. Expect it to be 15 months. Divorce, then injured my neck, had back surgery after injured neck that was pending prior to the divorce , but had to wait and then now just got neck surgery.

Most of my late twenties and early to mid 30's. Sporadic working out at best. Got caught up in the rat race career wise. Very good for my career, not so much for my physique. I'm still not good at balancing the two. Nowadays, it doesn't slip too long because it's imperative for my mental state as well.

The reason I dont compete anymore...
What do you do?

I always relax in December. I might hit the gym twice a week and just do whatever I want. Eat what I want if that means skipping breakfast and eating two meals a day. Right now I compete once a year in powerlifting and shortly after that there is a local strongman & highland games event that I like to do.

I started taking steroids in the mid 90s and although I've taken years off the sauce I haven't really taken a lot of time off the gym. Whether I'm focusing on bodybuilding, powerlifting, mountain biking, or mma I've always been active.

3 years and that was 5 years ago,i was getting ready for a power-lifting meet and i moved the wrong way and my ankle broke in 2 places.
I honestly didn't know if i would train again ,they put two plates and 12 screws when i had the surgery.
I couldn't do a calve raise (no weight ) until about 1 year after the surgery.
I now am at 85%-90% which is great i now can compete ,plan on hitting a national qualifier in the masters and maybe try to just compete in the masters national?

About 10 years. Alcohol, partying, women and play station got in the way:banghead:
Regrets ate pointless though, just hitting it fucking hard now to maje up list time. 38 and biggest and leanest I've ever been. Plan to hit about 6% next summer

I had my first son and I worked 2pm-11pm my ex worked 8am-5pm.... I was with him all morning and couldnt do much at the house. Until my ex worked it out so I can go like 2-3 days durning the week and 1-2 on weekend. On qv test I put on 15lbs and everyone thought I was going to another gym the whole time lol... But I was off around a year.. Really hard for me.

6-7 years no weights and 10 years no sauce. Was finishing up school, started a business, then started another business 2 years later, then went through rocky marriage that led to divorce.

Going back to training after not touching a weight for years and being clean, is depressing and almost make you want to hit the bar instead of the gym.

2 years... Why? I had a prolapsing colon. My guts were coming out my ass from straining to hard. It took three months to wade through multiple specialists and get a full diognosis. another month waiting to have surgury to correct it. The operation was not fun...

Within a week I had to have emergency surgury because I tore the internal sutures and was bleeding out.., my ass! Again, not fun. Doc tells me no heavy lifting for six months.

Within six months I am hospitlized for severe diverticulitis. Once again.., not fun at all! Doc says no more heavy lifting... I say fuck off.

While recovering I was experiencing multiple symptoms for which I was referred to a neurologist to explore furthure. After extensive testing I was diognosed with a host of spinal issues. Most were pre existing but worsening I believe because of my forced inactivity.

They also found that I had nerve damage in my hands related to carple tunnel but caused by irregular bone formation which they believed was caused by undiagnosed fractures. It was determined that surgury was required or my hands would worsen.

I had the left hand fixed and was forced to wait 3 months before I had the right hand fixed. From there they recommend waiting 6 months before training.

After 3 months of recovery I hit a tree at 65mph and rolled twice. I was texting and I was not wearing my seatbelt. My arm went out of the vehicle and was smashed between the car and the ground. My knee smashed into the dash and my ass smashed into the center console. My neck was not exactly happy either! Fun times...

The worst part was that I re-injured the wrist I just had surgury on! I was literally on medical leave still... I'm still not fully recovered. All together It was over two years. But I'm some what to comebacks so its all good.

This was my knee after the wreck. Yes I have large legs normally... But it was freakishly swollen in this pick. Remember that is a completely untrained leg. It would have probably tape at 34-36 inches... Seriously. I wish I had a pic from a week later. It was nasty. A seeping bruise from mid thigh to my foot!

4 years ( after training for 11) due to a terrible opiate habit.... clean now for 18 months and things are going great. thank the lord for that.

I don't think that's much loss at all. Who has a habit for 6 mos? Damn, I wish my rec drug abuse was only 6 mos.

I took a year off because of rotator issue. I guess I feel lucky?
